TO LOVE HER

TO LOVE HER

A Poem by Digvijay Singh

They say,
She's a gypsy.
Moving only ahead,
With no strings attached to her past lovers.
Her skin never adheres to emotions.
"A rock heart can never be loved" They say.
"Who are you to keep her in your prayers?"
...
I have seen her flirt and smile.
Seen her crying for heartache.
Then also, Heard her sing like a morning cuckoo.
Way she wave her hands while explaining stories.
Stories, where she quizzes you,
Just to have you by her side for few more seconds.
...
So,
If anything that is even close to truth,
Is the fact that she can not be loved
with orderly ideas or 'just roses'.
You must. must...
Offer her your heart and never ask it back.

This is the best thing of yours that I've read in a long time, or maybe even ever. This is very profound. Since I am a wild child, this could describe the younger me (the way I went thru men without a thought, without looking back). You use awesome details to show us this gypsy woman, especially love this: "Stories, where she quizzes you, Just to have you by her side for few more seconds." I love it when a writer hits home with some tiny little nuance about a person, but which speaks volumes about that person -- that's what this poem does (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
