A COFFEE DATE

A COFFEE DATE

A Poem by Digvijay Singh

She paints her ideas of love rarely now.
With hands locked in her lap, quietly.
All her words are now just to reply.
I see an unfamiliar smile
On a so familiar face.
"Kiss me as you used to."
"Hold my hand. It's the same coffee table."
"The same me."

Colour of these walls, texture of this table's wood.
That painting behind the counter. Your scent.
Nothing's changed.

Why did we?

This. Is. GREAT! So much heartfelt emotion... Perfect! Nicely done.

This has a mourneful echo as the protagonist struggles to understand the gulf that has grown between him and the person he loves. There appears no obvious reason other than boredom or a change of heart as people get to know one another. Nicely put and quite sad.

and she no longer asks for a second cup...
something has changed...the aroma of the relationship is no longer the same.
this is quite a good write.

I don't really review much here because I'm not good at it, but I just wanted to say this is the best poem I've read on this website so far. That last line nearly broke me and filled me with so much emotion. Thank you for writing this.

Very well stated. Why do things change when we stay the same?

You're very welcome.
This is the best poem of yours I've read so far. This is really a tight little scene you've painted in words, taking us on a very short journey but sharing such a big idea to ponder, about how relationships change. I love the simple longing expressed, the need for an answer, without blaming the other person. This questioning is done in a very loving way, which is much different than some might ask the same thing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
