Out of the OrdinaryA Story by Ali DiehlAnother small blurb from my journal. Kinley was, as her grandfather often told her, a
perfect combination of her mother and father. She was medium height, had brown
hair, and these stunning grey eyes that caught those around her off guard more
often than not. She was good in nature and relaxed. Languor, her grandfather would say, though he never meant it in the
sense of lazy. He meant it as a determination to be carefree and laid back,
just as she was. Kinley often spent her time dwelling on her thoughts and ideas
of what the future would hold, yet never had much of a drive to actually get up
and do anything about it. But things change. People change. There
was no out of the ordinary behavior for Kinley that cool autumn night. She was
doing as she always did, sitting in her room at her desk and scribbling
nonsense onto lined notebook paper until her hand was tired and her eyes were
sliding shut. However, there was something about that night that called her out
of the house and into the darkness that was slowly swallowing the landscape
around her. She was barefoot, her toes sliding though the grass and feeling
surprisingly cool on her toes. Kinley thought that the sky was particularly
beautiful that night, a dark purple overhead and a pinkish orange off into the
distance. “It’s
beautiful,” A voice she had never heard before graced her ears and to say that
she was curious would have been an understatement, “Did you know that this is
the most beautiful place in the whole town to watch the sunset?” Kinley
shook her head and ran her hands through her hair, turning towards the voice
and smiling. It was a boy. He was about her age, she assumed, tall, black
haired, beautiful. © 2013 Ali Diehl |
