Tonight

A Poem by D. L. Vaccaro

Song lyrics from 2005

"
Silent pilot inside my mind, can you let me free?
Little voice in my ear, can you let me be?
I need to be myself, and love myself, and
Jump when I want to be free.
I need to do my thing, and love the sun, and
Laugh when moonlight's warm.

Victorious ego grows in size, can you set me free?
Cyprus self conquers souls instead, can you set me Please
I need to be your man, and you need me, and
You'll cry when I go home.
I need to make you cry, and wonder why, and
Burn the cities down at night.

Lizards crawl along white walls, can you get me free?
Beaded eyes search and stare, can you get me, me?
I need to feel your touch, and so much more, and
Feed on your flesh tonight.
I need to laugh inside, and feel you cry, and
Know that there is god in me.

Ashen statues of men who died, smashed inside my soul, tonight.
Ancient courts of circumstance, imploded in my heart, tonight.
Nazareth was grown up high, burned down in my mind, tonight.
Noble blood was boiled hot, poured out in two cups, tonight.

Hours pass in silent wonder, can you make me free?
Time's regret is never visited, can you make me see?
I need to open my eyes, and realize, that
Life won't do for me.
I need to open your eyes, and make you see, that
I don't need to be free, tonight, that
I don't need to be pleased, tonight, that
I don't need to be seen, tonight, that
I don't need to be me, tonight,
All I need is you, tonight.
