A Poem by D. L. Vaccaro

Raven black - sky a furnace,
Hidden track - clouds exploding.
Lifetimes weep - a soul to reap,
Slowly creepin' - the dirt is seepin'.
Forget the Melancholy breeze of Winter,
Forge the steel of Spring's mines.
Force the hand of Summer's mentor,
Ford the creek that passes through time.

Boy, did the ground see?
Fireflies in the dark navy sky.
Prisms and diamonds the eyes of the goddess,
light refracting, reflecting into the world.

Child, did you live free?
Unseen Images flashing before virgin eyes.
The nectar of Heaven doesn't match her flesh's sweetness,
Her favour, unknown. Her behaviour, kind.

An army of stars sitting in socks,
Brightness and light held without a boy.
Ancient warriors prepare for war,
Relentlessly, the bourgeois ask for more.
Fields of white, yet lost in blue,
Warmth coming, from being with you.
Fingers searching for what your mind can't touch,
Contemplating, I think I think to much.
Love or Lust, where do I draw the line?
Death is the final frontier, at least its mine.

The heart of the cat is beating to its own tambourine.
Kelsey was a good cousin for the onlookers,
but to others his skin was mahogany finished.
Lackluster friends are like tired bookends:
Endlessly dusty and tirelessly firm in station.
Jackets are a cold reminder of pass transgressions.
Potatoes as high as their cut out eyes.
Pessimists give it a try for their elders.
Pianos burning in eternal flames of lepers.
Gypsters singing French love songs to die by.
Hickeys left by frogs or would-be-princes.
Pigs fry in pans of silk and wine icing.

Mercury ignites poor travellers of time.
Sailing caravels part the seventeen virgins.
Whispers inflame the cold night air.
Skin is changed with the spin of a turbine.

Carousels of light spin carelessly away,
Burn out eyes and hide tears in pillows.
Feel your way south, to the town of Dorado.
Light the fire inside your sister's brain lobe.

List your excuses for why the fever.
Find a way to say you hate her.
Sons who really are daughters.
Fathers who really are martyrs.

Pineapple solutions don't grow on trees.
Plumb problems hide in the shrubs.
Banana beauties never hang in bunches.
Vanilla death is still as hard to swallow.

Red bricks over and over, higher and higher,
Build a castle of dreams and set in on fire.
Pound on the walls of mortar and stone,
Damn the onlookers, I feel so alone.
I want to fly into the sun, and touch the light,
Burn my soul, cleanse my soul bright white.

Colour passes through my mind, can I see it, can I tough it?
Heaven and Hell - I can’t find you, can I be there, can I die there?
Now if I die before finding my way back, can I make it, can I hide it?

Passing voices parade by lonely ears
Light causes shadows to dance on walls.
I can’t see the light in front of my feet,
I can’t hear the sound of your lonely calls.

I can’t, I swear, I can’t

I saw you just the other day, out on your way, to some appointment or something, I wanted to stop and say to you, how I felt bout you, but I was scared, I was scared you might think I was strange. I don’t wanna be a stranger baby.

You never know what you want until you know who you are, so don’t go to far, keep love near, keep it here.

Mysts of the old world, light up the night,
Stones and shadows reverberate, each and every fright.
The hills echo back every desire,
The grass continues to grow higher and higher.

Clouds hang low over barnyard and trailer,
Few Stars shine through, most are failures.
Barking the only sound to be heard,
Except the creek trickling and the cat's purr.

Smoke rises from the house with one chimney,
The heartless fireplace's laquor finish is grimy.
Heat, the vision sees, climbs on heavenward,
Cold and lonely, happiness, if its in the cards.

I broke the rules, was untrue,
Did what I knew not to do.
I lost the feeling, unbelieving,
Tried to make sense before leaving.
Not that I want to, but I have to,
Love long lost, lingers lazily loud blue.

I broke your heart, broke mine too,
Didn't think at all of you,
I made the tears fall all night,
Tried to stay calm without a fight.
Not that I want to, but I have to,
Love long lost, lingers lazily loud blue.

I cheated your heart, exchanged for something new,
Didn't think that we'd ever not be two.

Seduce me with your lies, Seduce me with your eyes.
Make me want to touch, Make me want too much.
Crash and cry, continue to try.
Stand up tonight, stand up tonight.

Lead me to your place, Lead me to your space.
Show me something more, Show me to your shores.
Crash and burn, continue to yearn.
Conquer her tonight. Conquer her tonight.

Feel your way home, Feel your hands roam.
Lie me where you lay, Lie me without delay.
Crash and fall, continue to call.
Become a man tonight, Become a man tonight.

Share a bowl and forgive, Share a bowl to relive.
Smoke me out the door, Smoke me and ignore.
Crash and fire, continue to desire.
Feel her warmth tonight, Feel her warmth tonight.

Devil's in her smile, Angels in her face.
Ocean in her eyes, and her minds in outer space.
Blonde waves flow in her hair, Brown fields in her brow,
Tanned valleys in her abs, and all I can say is 'wow'.

Flow the conversation,
Lay the atmosphere.
Pick me up softly,
Let me down swiftly.

I'm not so fragile,
I'm not your ragdoll.
I'm not many things,
That I was before.

I don't bleed red,
I don't bleed sand.
I don't bled dead,
I'm not your typical man.

You saw me then,
You saw me fail.
You say me when,
No wind filled my sails.

You knew my shadow,
You knew my façade.
You knew my reflection,
But you never knew me.

So here I am complete,
So here I am reborn.
So here I am wondering,
If you wonder at all.

You used to enthral me,
You used to enthral me.
You used to dominate me,
But now I am free.

Burning heart of marine deprivation,
silently drilling into the abyss.
Congoling, eroding, destroying,
my soul
my heart
my body
is yours

So if you hear a tune from old Eyre's shores - Whistle me the melody.
