Tornado

Tornado

A Poem by Dianne S Penfold
"

A metaphor for life

"
Life is a tornado,
violent and pure,
ripping through threads of air,
creating something more.
It takes the calm,
and swirls it into chaos,
Weaving peace into pain,
Changing everything, changing us.
It pulverizes faith,
It shreds our hope,
Life stings like acid
until we cannot cope.
It is harsh but short,
it stays not for long,
It takes you with it,
and then you're gone.
You become a speck.
Dust in rotating air.
One moment you're grounded,
The next you're in it's lair.

Don't fight this tornado
It is impossible to win
Just embrace the chaos,
you might find joy within.

I thought about the last year. The pandemic has been like a tornado sweeping through, engulfing and destroying. It has caused chaos and death. It has wrecked economies. What do we do? We have to go with the flow until it has blown itself out. And is there any joy? Surprisingly there is. Little glimpses of it still manage to surface. We are all passing through. Enjoyed the read.

Last line in first stanza, did you mean "its"?
I think this poem is a well-drawn metaphor.
The tornado imagery is very strong...Yes, life is short and can be violent, harsh but if we can fight to stay grounded, there is much we can accomplish regarding of the chaos.
Nicely done, Dianne.

"it's" is short for "it is", the possessive is "its."

I've read that it is interchangeable. Thank you for your input. I think I'll leave it as it is.
Wow, your poem is incredibly powerful and evocative. The imagery you use to describe life as a tornado is both beautiful and haunting, and I love the way you capture the idea that chaos and pain can ultimately lead to growth and transformation. Your words are full of raw emotion and honesty, and I found myself deeply moved by your message. Thank you for sharing this - your talent for poetry is truly impressive.

I fancy this composition. I do not always embrace or perceive what the writer is expressing in some poems. Not the case with this piece. I both felt it and appreciated it. I enjoyed the parity between the natural tornado and life itself.
