Skewed

Skewed

A Poem by Diane

Skewed

             What do you do

when your heart and mind tell you one thing

                                             and everyone around you

             tells you something else?

          When you’re told

that all your memories are a lie

                                      and the hurt inside

Is just another symptom of you personal neurosis?

                  The insults, the bruises

                    the pain . . .

               they didn't happen as you recollect . . .

Did they really happen at all?

The mind is a funny thing:

it plays tricks on us,

                and families?

              They can be funnier still.

     But x-rays

                 Don’t lie

                       and scars are not created

                                  out of imagination.

Wow, that ending really kicks it.
I love the haphazard way you have the stanzas indented in the beginning, but then the end its a clear progression. Great phrasing.
