The Lady of the Lakes

The Lady of the Lakes

A Poem by Dianah
"

A rewrite of an older poem updated after hearing news of flooded Lakeland towns,Cumbria.

"

The Lady wept.
She let out screams
that could not be heard
above the roaring hoards
that had invaded
her wilderness.

The Lady wept.
Her reflection quivered
on the surface calm
as time slowly dripped,
her past life tripped
through acidic forests.

The Lady wept.
The air filled with fumes
like smokers rooms
Once undiscovered,
now silently smothered
in paradise lost.

The Lady wept.
Her tears filled the lake
dissolved the fears
of unborn years
The people stopped to think
To drink the holy water
Overcome with sorrow

The people wept
For Our Lady of Tomorrow.

Pretty good! Nice to see you back on this site, by the way! Well, whilst reading - I was briefly reminded of the "lady in the lake" legend relating to King Arthur and his Excalibur sword! However, the writer has managed to make this piece rather mystical and philosphical - without a need to depend upon the supernatural. From reading this, I have the impression that the lady is shedding tears for the devastation caused by recent flooding in Cumbria. Quite a topical re-write, with flooding an issue in more than one country, over recent days. Thankyou!

Great write. Very thought provoking and touching. Quite picturesques. Such a sense of sadness and waste.

I really like the repetition you use in this piece. I also like the end rhymes you use. I think that they create a musical quality that is solid and vibrant.
