Alba

Alba

A Poem by Dianah
"

A poem about Scotland

"

The Old King waits
for the sun to shine
Crowned in purple thistles

Slowly he erodes
Bathed in rain
While the West wind whistles.

His past is lost
in the mists of time
Heather hugs his barren slopes.

Deforested land
brought back to life
New forests bring new hope.

Islands float
around his head
Alba living in the tongues

Of Gaelic people
Alba kept him alive
He's breathing in their lungs.

Above a sandy beach
Alba reflects
on his peaceful throne

Highland clearances
left him empty
Alba is never alone.

This is lovely, Dianah! You have portrayed "Scotland", as if it was an actual person. And, rather well, along with various points of historical interest. Whilst reading, I was able to imagine a little, of what this land is like. Particularly, from a scenic perspective.

There are a number of pleasant references, to both the Scottish landscape and climate. The writer has also managed to evoke, an impression of the mystery and folklore which can be associated with history. Thankyou!
