Paniker's diary

Paniker's diary

A Story by er. divenita
"

This is a diary of a 14 year old lad, Paniker. The character is totally a work of fiction and bears no resemblance with any person living or dead. If it does, then it is purely coincidental.

"
Holidays:
Amma goes to work everyday and I go to school. I study in the eighth standard.  Since it is vacation for us, she drops me at Sham’s home. His amma does not work. Sham has a baba who takes care of them. At my place it is Amma and me. I take care of her.
I reached Sham’s home.

Saying Namastey to his reverent parents, I hit Sham casually

His Amma smiles, asks us to sit in the verandah and play cards as it is hot outside

As his parents leave, we opt to talk of our class girls and their nascent breasts.

And in between we eat kachoris which his amma makes daily

We are bored. After a short nap as the sun smiles friendly, we play a game of cricket. Sham hits a six and the cricket ball is now lost. We search for it but in vain. Sham will buy two tomorrow he promises and we walk towards our favourite garden. My first visit this vacation.

On seeing our garden we are upset.

The garden which was once handsome ,

today, houses half-planted plants, naked trees and beside them

stands the big board which reads: maintained by SAHAY FOUNDATION

we fetch water and try to soothe the garden, irksome

We try to do something more than water the plants. Sham and I have decided to ask his Baba who works in a local office which helps poeple.  Sham says he will ask his baba in the night. I decide to leave home from the garden.

I bid Sham a “See you tomorrow”

I go home where amma is waiting for me

with local produce she makes her signature curry

She feeds my famished stomach with dal rice

topping it with a voluptuous amount of ghee

As far as a journal goes it's nicely written. A small tip from me is to draw up a spider diagram of your main character and branch off it all the things going on in his/her life, from friends and their lives and events that could happen logically in their life. Good luck with your venture.
