Friendship

Friendship

A Poem by Dhruv Grover

Just how absurd is our friendship?
A whole movie disgraced for a clip.
All the memories forgotten for one mistake.
So weak, it almost feels fake.

Almost like brothers to one another,
but now it seems you don't bother.
Must have been so many times I forgave you;
but for my one mistake, you chose friends new.

All these years have gone in vain;
All that I suffered, I now feel the pain.
Always thought we were the best of friends,
but we failed to make amends.

Now we both miss the old days,
remembering the times that were gay.
We now both sit alone,
I in my room but you with your friends in your lawn.

This was poignant and pensive in its exploration of a valued friendship, lost for whatever reason. I've actually lived this poem. I had a best friend who played a practical joke on me that I did not appreciate because it was in poor taste and very disrespectful of my friend whom I thought was as considerate of my feelings as I was of his. I didn't visit him for a little over a year. I didn't call or write. Then I saw his wife in the supermarket one day (she hated me because her husband and I were friends) She told me once, "I 'll tell you why I don't like you. My husband would come running if you call but I can't get him to take out the garbage even by yelling at him." In my defense I had never told my friend to take out the garbage. (smile) But she said, "Please come and see him. He misses you and he's sorry. You should come talk to him". So I did and we patched things up. Betrayal always comes at the hands of friends. We expect no less from our enemies. A great read, well written. I enjoyed.

So hard to lose good friends. I felt your pain here in your stanzas. You convey your emotion well. One mistake and it’s gone? Perhaps it can be salvaged. I hope the outcome is a positive one. Pleased to have stopped by today.
