Where to Watch the Orioles When You’re not in BaltimoreA Story by D. HoganBeing a long-time Orioles fan and non-stop business traveler – it was one of my missions to make sure I’d know where to go to watch an O’s game, regardless of what city I was in.This year’s team has gotten me excited " bringing back memories of some of my Oriole favorites, including Lenny Sakata, Joe Orsulak, Tippy Martinez, Bob Milacki, and Mike Devereaux " and now that I’m based in LA and constantly on the go, I’m making it a point of having enough places to watch the game no matter where I find myself. So if you want to watch the Birds battle for that AL East Pennant, check out some of my suggestions below for great sports bars all around the country and get ready to catch all the contested Orioles action. New York Given the extensive baseball tradition, it’s easy to find great bars in NYC for any and all MLB action. Sure the Yankees and Mets will take precedence if the games are on at the same time, but with massive joints boasting tons of tubes, you’re sure to find at least one TV with the O’s playing. And since the Yanks and Birds are both gunning for first, educated NY fans will want to know who their nearest rival is anyway. Try 200 Fifth in Park Slope as they feature 65 flat-screens or Blondies on the Upper West Side with 40 TVs of their own. Boston Although it might be considered blasphemous to even mention a B’more team in a Boston sports bar, you’ll still have a chance to catch plenty of MLB action at great bars all over town. But for a sure thing, head over to either The Fours by TD Garden (they have more than 40 TVs) or Game On! in Fenway (they have more than 90 TVs). Just make sure you root on the inside " Sox fans kinda like to fight. Washington, DC With one of the best teams in the league competing for District denizens’ attention, watching the Orioles games at bars in DC can be tough " but not if you know the right bars with tons of TVs. Make sure you check out Public Bar in Dupont Circle with their 40+ flat-screens plastered to every wall and incredible Happy Hours to get you primed for another Adam Jones bomb to left field. Chicago Now that the Cubbies are almost in dead last, Chicago baseball is looking a little bleak. Sad for Cubs fans, but if you want to watch the O’s, that means more TV time for you. Check out Bull & Bear in River North with taps built into the tables and 25 flat-screens pressed to the walls. Rockit Bar & Grill, meanwhile, is more for Cubs junkies, but seeing how horribly they’re playing " sports nuts will want to turn to something else to keep their minds off the curse. © 2012 D. Hogan |
