New Sun
A Poem by Dhemila
Lyrics written by Noor Brara and myself...
New Sun
Asus2 > Dsus2
The new sun rises on last night’s coffee cup,
Asus2 > Dsus2
And your long black hair just won’t stay up.
Asus2>E>Dsus2
And your window’s not a metaphor today,
F>G
As you pencil down dreams you cannot say.
Dmaj7 > Dm7
It's not becoming of you,
A7(fifth)
she says with her foot in the door,
then it's
Dmaj7> Dm7
Get downstairs and do all the
A7(fifth)
dishes, before i get home and well
Dmaj7>Dm7
maybe we'll get along better later but not now,
A7 (fifth)
no I don't have time to fight with you right now
Fill up your paper napkins with stories of you,
Color your dazzling poet words gold, green and blue.
Blink away sleep; duel off writer’s block with a fight,
Let yourself outshine the city of blinding lights.

i think this is beautiful. my favorite stanza is:
"Fill up your paper napkins with stories of you,
Color your dazzling poet words gold, green and blue.
Blink away sleep; duel off writer's block with a fight,
Let yourself outshine the city of blinding lights."
that is such a glorified image of something easy to relate to.
BUT-
as a poet and reader it was hard for me with all the chords. i would have preferred leaving those separate.
