Chapter Twelve

I’m sitting in the corner of the room with my eyes closed when I hear the door open. I open my eyes as Bryan walks in. He’s wearing white slacks and a t-shirt, completely different from the last time I saw him. He’s in this facility too? How am I supposed to get answers if he’s in here too? When did he arrive here? He probably only knows what I know, unless I’m wrong. I hope I am.

My heart races as he walks closer. I quickly jump up and put on a smile.

“Oh, don’t be too happy to see me.” He chuckles.

I suppress the smile. “Trust me, I’m not.”

He walks up to me and grabs my arm. “I remember everything, Natalie.” He whispers.

“Oh, don’t act all innocent.” I snatch my arm from his grip, “I remember a lot too, Bryan.

He steps back and walks over to stand against the wall.

I take a deep breath to try to slow my heart rate. I know I can’t intimidate this guy even though I’m trying to anyway.  I’m trying so hard to not let him scare me, but I’m failing at it. The most I can do right now is act and put on a face. Even though, he can probably see right through it.

“Can you get me out of here?” I ask.

“After everything you’ve done to me, you expect me to get you out of here?” He laughs, “No, honey, that’s not how this works.”

“I didn’t say ‘would you get me out of here?’ I said ‘can you get me out of here?’ Trust me, if you could, I know you wouldn’t.” I shrug. “I just want to know if you know the way out. If you did"I could potentially figure it out a lot quicker than the pace I’m at now.”

The whole atmosphere changes when he walks up to me and says. “What did you tell them?”

“Nothing,” I shake my head.

Suddenly I feel like an ant compared to him. I feel like I’m in that last memory I had. I feel like no matter what, he has complete control over me. He has the ability to change my emotions in a snap. I have no say whatsoever. I want to take control right now, but I just can’t. My wall of bravery quickly goes down and my eyes begin to tear up.

“You’re lying.” He hits my face and I fall to the ground. “Don’t be scared now. I just want to know the truth, Natalie. There’s no other reason why I ended up in this hellhole if you didn’t tell them anything.” He says as he pulls out a remote-like object. “You see this?”

I slowly crawl backwards. “What is that?” I whisper.

He walks closer to me. “It has a button on it and if I press it"we both drown.” He smiles. “I won’t press it unless you don’t tell me what you told them. No one randomly gets put in unit 99, Natalie! You had to say something, it’s the only answer!”

I shake my head, “I didn’t say anything, I swear.” I get up.

He grabs my neck and pushes me into the wall. “Listen here, if you tell me what you said, that’ll tell me what you remember. I’m supposed to find that out and report it to Dr. Peters in order to get released from the unit I’m in. So, we’re either going to do this the easy way or the hard way, which one?”

I refuse to answer as I try to ply his hand off of my throat, but every time I try, he squeezes harder. It’s like I’m fading in and out of cautiousness and every time I come close to fading all the way out, I see Lucas. I don’t remember much from my past, but I have a feeling that I need stay for him. If I leave him, he may never find a way out. It’s not something you can do alone.

He releases his hand and I inhale deeply as I slide to the ground.

Once I’m physically stable enough, I jump up and cry as I run to where the door is supposed to be and begin bagging on it.

“Let me out! Please, get me out of here!” I cry out.

He laughs, “They’re not going to let you out until I’ve done my job.”

Water starts falling from the ceiling.

“They’re not going to let us die, Bryan. They don’t want that. They would’ve done that to me a long time ago, if that were the case.” I say as the water slowly rises to the base of my shoe.

He throws the remote thing at my face and runs towards me. I run the opposite way, but he trips me and jumps on top of me. He starts hitting me again, but this time not stopping after just one. After the fourth I stopped struggling. After the eighth one, I went unconscious.

WOW!!! This is really good. I think there is more to the Bryan and Natalie story that is yet to be revealed. I am interested to know more about the Doctor's role too. This is so good. One note: last word on the chapter you spelled unconscious wrong.
