LifeA Poem by Dez NoirWith a life altering event, how do you deal?It is not about the rising in morning Or the Steve Madden shoes you wear. It is not about your date for Friday night Or the party planned for Saturday. It is your best friend coming to your house At three in the morning, telling you something is wrong, But not knowing what, Then pulling a key out and dragging it across her wrists. It is the late night and calling through the hard wooden door. The pain in your hand as you beat against the entryway. The hoarse creeping into your voice as you beg for whoever your friend has become To open the entrance. It is holding her close as she whimpers all of her personalities into your shoulder.
It is not about passing the algebra test Or winning the football game. It is not about the s****y cafeteria food. Or the overpriced coffee at Starbucks. It is holding her small, frail body against yours As the cops speed to the hospital. It is pinning her arms to her body So she can’t claw her face.
It is not the smell of Sweet Seduction that you wear Or the strawberry gum you chew. It is the isolation room where security guards wheeled her to. It is the light slowly returning to her blue eyes. It is the way her eyebrows that knit her face. It is the time when she grabbed you and said she loved you. It is the emotions you can’t reciprocate. It is packing up your house as you move back home.
It becomes about rising in the morning And the Steve Madden shoes. It becomes the dates and parties, The s****y food, the overpriced coffee. It is the loves you hold and the one you let go.© 2011 Dez NoirFeatured Review
