Life

Life

A Poem by Dez Noir
"

With a life altering event, how do you deal?

"

It is not about the rising in morning

Or the Steve Madden shoes you wear.

It is not about your date for Friday night

Or the party planned for Saturday.

It is your best friend coming to your house

At three in the morning, telling you something is wrong,

But not knowing what,

Then pulling a key out and dragging it across her wrists.

It is the late night and calling through the hard wooden door.

The pain in your hand as you beat against the entryway.

The hoarse creeping into your voice as you beg for whoever your friend has become

To open the entrance.

It is holding her close as she whimpers all of her personalities into your shoulder.

It is not about passing the algebra test

Or winning the football game.

It is not about the s****y cafeteria food.

Or the overpriced coffee at Starbucks.

It is holding her small, frail body against yours

As the cops speed to the hospital.

It is pinning her arms to her body

So she can’t claw her face.

It is not the smell of Sweet Seduction that you wear

Or the strawberry gum you chew.

It is the isolation room where security guards wheeled her to.

It is the light slowly returning to her blue eyes.

It is the way  her eyebrows that knit her face.

It is the time when she grabbed you and said she loved you.

It is the emotions you can’t reciprocate.

It is packing up your house as you move back home.

It becomes about rising in the morning

And the Steve Madden shoes.

It becomes the dates and parties,

The s****y food, the overpriced coffee.

It is the loves you hold and the one you let go.

My first review when you sent this to me in our omegle conversation:
"I detect the story of a personal experience captured here, by the vibrancy and detail. If what you were referring to was not a real experience in your life, you certainly wrote this piece well enough that the reader can believe it was. Excellent thoughts portrayed here. I am a being who stops to smell the roses, my life is about living. i know what it's like to taste death, each breath I take is never taken for granted.
The scenarios you painted quite simply speak to me the difference between those breathing consciously and those permanent in ways of complete ignorance."

I am rarely one for poetry, basically the only poet I really have taken to is my boyfriend. However, this one truly spoke to me when you firsts sent it to me.
I want to warn you that you are going to get stupid three word reviews on this that say "excellent job great work" or something of equal low intelligence. Don't loose your faith in this amazing website because of those though.
You're an incredible writer, I've discovered this in the few short hours I've known you and I'm thrilled that I will be able to continue reading your work now that you're on Cafe.
Awesome.

Wow! There's so much emotion there. So much of life's truths too. It would be something hard to go through I'd imagine. The memories alone would be heartbreaking.

There's a tough kernal to your particular nut Dez.
You write earthy, gritty stuff without the usual bullshit embellishment.
I like it.

It takes great strength at times to break away from the practical world and see it through the eyes of compassion and heart. It takes great courage to push aside the person wants and desires and place another's life above and beyond your own. It takes a large heart and the understanding of being selfless, that can forever change the life of someone close.

This piece speaks to me of giving unconditionally, of loving without hope for return and about the sacrifice needed to put another's life first. Your words breed hope and wisdom for those who read it's woven beauty.

Thank you for sharing,
Wolfie
