                            I see you

I see you watching me as I look at you. Where did we go wrong? The bartender pours us another shot; he’s knows we’ve already had too many but what the hell it’s on our tab, he could care less if we drove head on into a semi when we left here. I remember when we used to be better than this; missions, money, girls and all the action we could handle. Those were the days  weren’t they? Nothing is the way it used to be or how it was planned. Agents turned on agents and greed began to be the objective along with our others. Guns were soon drawn on the ones we called brothers and when that happened we all knew how the rest would play out. We haven’t seen those men in a long time and if we did I already know what it would be. There are only two that we can still trust but they are off on other parts of this world surviving any way they can like me. Yeah I recognize that smile; it’s that one that one I give to myself as I think of how I went from a top notch bad a*s that could hit a cat right in the crack of his a*****e fifty yard away to an alcoholic addicted to pain pills from a bullet three years ago. My money comes from doing odd jobs on the side working with the same type of people we got paid to make disappear. We can’t even use our real name anymore for fear of popping up on the wrong radar. This era of our life sucks; stubble on our face and clothes that keep our profile as low as possible. When we go home it’s not to a fashionable modern flat but to a duplex in a neighborhood where crime and poverty are an everyday normality. One day we’ll get back to the way it used to be buddy, I promise. But right now we must be patient and come up with a plan to change the way we are presently. It’s now the point at night that we hate; closing time when we go home, lie down and have nightmares about our past. We’ll talk again; we always do whether when we meet in the bathroom or when we are driving home. Just be careful and know that even if no one else has your back that we have been together since day one and we’ll be together until the end.
