Out of Darkness

The poem is mostly dark, save for the last verse. This is to show, no matter if all you can see before you is darkness, all you need is one ray of light... to come Out of Darkness.

A world saturated in endless sorrow,

Crests upon a boy, a shadow not seen,

Hope is an Illusion. There is pain today, and will be tomorrow,

Through darkness he travels, and knows not where he’s been.

 

A red haze descends, sharp pains down below,

The void reaches out, leaving a claim on his heart,

What he had done to deserve this, he’d never know.

And now darkness had marked him, cursed from the start.

 

Years lost in shadow, the cursed boy had grown,

No desire to be free, content in his shame,

No love for others, for he had grown alone,

He was absolutely certain, that he himself was to blame.

 

Solitude, an endless path,

Retribution, his only goal

No one was safe, from his boundless wrath,

A heart blackened by abuse, a forsaken soul.

 

Walk, run, sprint, flee,

Fate was his alone to find,

Fight against the agony,

He left the pain of his past behind.

 

But such a thing is not so sure,

The past can follow through time and space,

Grief will find even the most demure,

It will never stop hunting, nor give up the chase

 

It will lurk inside you, underneath,

Small as a gnat, but deadly as a sword,

And will make your heart a convenient sheath,

Forcing you back, even as you move forward.

 

 

A beast of the void, a maw of endless darkness

Raging against the bonds, the blocks, the repression

Leaving the host an empty carcass,

Giving way to anger, to hatred, to depression.

 

The impenetrable wall, you never erected

That which you forgot, you swear you never knew,

Now it all floods back, the pain you deflected,

That which you spurned, has now come to claim you.

 

You must fight back, rage against fate,

In this endeavor, you must be ruthless,

Regain your life, before it’s too late,

Complete the journey, Out of Darkness.
