Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Dexy94

Goodbye

This word is used to often with too little meaning

This word can sometimes hurt

Hurt so much it kills

Other goodbyes we may be thankful for, they may be a god send to some

But so far I have learnt that all my goodbyes

Sometime or another

Hurt

Saying goodbye to a loved one

Be it for a few days

Be it forever

Is like taking a child's most prized toy away

Ripping it from their arms

Leaving them empty and vulnerable

And the child left to cry in an empty room alone

Some goodbyes hurt

Some goodbyes are painless

For you know you will see them the next day

But have you ever once stopped and thought

This word means so much

This word, goodbye

Imagine if you said this word to your closets loved one

Knowing the next day or next month you shall see them

What if something happens?

What if they are hurt or injured

We do not know what the future holds for us

What if this word

Was the last word you ever said to your loved one

Never to see them again

What if you were the lonely child

Without its comfort

Would it scare you?

On the outside you say goodbye with a smile

But inside you are begging them to stay

The scene running through my head again and again

Memories of good times and bad

How time flies by my love, come back to me

Again

Again

I don't want to remember the goodbye

If I don't remember it, it never happened

Right?

Stay a little longer my sweet

Tell me it never happened

Give this child back its toy

Let it be happy

For a little longer

Watch it play

Let its have its fun

Don't spoil it

As the young one grows and learns from this object of comfort

But please, leave them be

Don't take their toy away

Not just yet

It's comfort

Children need it

As do we all

I sit and I write

Thinking about the scene in my head

I want to do it differently

Please rewind

I want to hold you a little longer

Feel your arms around me

Hear your voice close to me

Feel you pressed against me

You have so many ways of making me happy

Cheering me up by the smallest of things

Even that look you give me, it makes me smile

You know that

Right?

But when you say goodbye

I want to stop time

Go back

Do it again

I wouldn't change one bit

Apart from this;

I wouldn't say goodbye

I wouldn't say see you soon

In fact

I wouldn't say anything

I would just let you go

Because I know I will see you again

Some day

Some time

Some how

I know it wont be long until you are here with me

In my arms once more

The smell of your skin on mine

The warmth of your breath

And the touch of your kiss

You voice whispering in my ear, sweet words

But until then my darling

Sweet dreams

And I shall see you when I do

But I will never say goodbye

So until that day

Let the child play a little longer

Give back the comfort

And see them smile
