FriendA Poem by DewberryI've always had trouble knowing what a friend is and I wanted to convey that in this piece. I'm not content with this piece though and would love to make this into a slam poem.Friend (Noun)
It is easy to give feelings of sentiment to others, by saying “have a nice day,” or “nice to meet you, That doesn't mean they are friends Most people who receive or give personal regard are cashiers or waiters But they are not friends, they are acquaintances Friend (Noun) 2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter Everyone gives assistance It's what they were taught to do as a little kid Some adults force younger family members to help each other to "become friends" Teachers, store clerks, nurses, etc. all give assistance in everyday life But are these people really friends Someone who spoke to once and never again These people are not friends Associating with them, like they are a distant neighbor Friend (Noun) 3. a person associated with another as a contact on a social-networking website: We've never met, but we're Facebook friends. Do I even have to explain this one? Strangers you haven't talked to even once can friend, add, follow, subscribe to any one of your social media accounts Liking and sharing your posts, but not once seeing your face off of a computer screen These people aren't friends either These people aren’t even acquaintances, they’re unembodied voices. Let’s face it, I don’t know what a true friend is The dictionary gave me multiple definitions but I can’t clearly see what a friend is People call me their friend all the time, but like the word love, some people just throw it around like it means nothing Does the word friend mean nothing? If this word has no genuine meaning, then why is it taking me so long to figure out I have acquaintances and classmates, but do I have friends? © 2016 Dewberry |
