Larry: It is too late for that. This would have all been over now if you didn't decide to run. Now look, you ruined everything. But it isn't in vain. Is it?

Reports Chatter rise. Fade out

Announcer: Meanwhile, in his office, Rick Hart, contemplates over the latest news.

Secretary: Oh my, what horrid stuff. Atleast four victims? Do you think they will catch him?

Rick: I don't know. He has eluded the police for so long. It mostly depends on his motive. If he is sick enough, he will do it till he gets caught or dies.

Secretary: You got to do something! You're a private eye aren't you?

Rick: Yes, however I see no need to try and cross with the police on this issue unless it is deemed necessary. You understand?

Secretary: You mean, your waiting on them to call you right?

Rick: I don't think my skills are that good. I will leave this to the capable hands of the professionals.

Secretary: You know, you can be a jerk sometimes!

Rick: What? Im not Sherlock Holmes here! It's not my business.

Secretary: Exactly, its not your Business.

Rick: So do I have any messages?

Fx: stomps out the room.

Fx: Door Slams.

Malina: She so likes you.

Rick: I know, you tell me everytime. This killer stuff is just out of my hands.

Malina: She just thinks that you could probably solve it. Its her version of you. I guess you cant blame her though. Well perhaps we will get lucky with this one.

Rick: I hope not.

Malina: Why not?

Rick: To get lucky will mean, well…you know. And to hope for something like that isn't my idea of a good thing.

Malina: You're such a pessimist.

Rick: I don't think so.

Malina: Talking with ghosts has made you permantly gloomy.

Rick: So I should stop hanging around with you then.

Malina: I'm the exception that proves the rule. By the way, I saw someone hanging out in the lobby, want to see them?

Rick: Sure. I'll have her bring'em in.

Malina: That's not what I mean.

Rick: …Oh.

Fx: Footsteps,

Fx: Door opens

Rick: Okay, you can come in.

Secretary: Who are you talking to?

Rick: Ah…no one.
Malina: Smooth.

Fx: Footsteps back to desk.

Fx: Someone sitting in a chair.

Rick: Hello, anyone there?

Malina: Look down.

Girl: Excuse me? Are you Mr. Hart?

Rick: Yes, I am Rick Hart, nice to meet your aquantince Ms…

Girl: I'm Jenny. Please to meet you.

Rick: Well Jenny, tell me about yourself and why you're here while I'll close the door so the lady outside doesn't think I'm insane.

Girl: Okay. My name is Jenny and I'm seven years old. I was born in New York. My mom and dad moved here last year. They had a bad argument and…

FX: Door closes

Rick: It's okay, I don't need the major details. So, what brings you here?

Girl: I don't know. I just knew I should come here. Can you help me?

Rick: Sure thing kiddo. Can you tell me who killed you?

Girl (acts scared)

Rick: Are you okay?

Malina: I'm sorry you will have to forgive my brother here. He is kind of a coo coo.

Girl (slight giggle)

Rick: Are you feeling better now.

Girl: Can I see my mommy soon?

Rick (sigh)

Malina: I don't know if we can.

Girl: Pretty please?

Rick: Sure, why not? Though I got to warn you, she wont be able to really see you or talk to you, you being dead and all.

Girl: I…know.

Rick: I will make it an issue that we meet with her, however right now, if you want me to help you catch your killer, I would need to know whats the last thing you remember.

Girl: Um… I remember running.

Rick: From who?

Malina: Slow down, let her finish.

Girl: It was in the woods. Then I think I was shot.

Rick: Okay, our first destination will be the woods. (calls out) Linda, We will be heading out, hold my calls thank you.

Secretary: Sure thing. Whats the occasion?

Rick: I got a case that is going to involve some field work. Don't know when I will be back. Now, let me get my coat and the three of us will be off.

Secretary: Three who?

Rick: Um...just me, my brains and my coat.

Secretary: (unsure) Riiight.

FX: Door Opens, and Door Closes.

Fade into
Backround noise: Nature sounds

Fx: Outdoor Footsteps.

Malina: Are we near the place?

Rick: I cant tell, she pointed this direction but she seems to slow down as we get closer. I wonder whats troubling her.

Malina: Perhaps she is still adjusting, she was only five you know.

Rick: Something has her terrified.

Malina: It probably isn't as complex as you think.

FX: Footstep Halt

Rick: Why did you stop?

Jenny: Do I have to be here?

Malina: We are here, aren't we; the scene of your murder.

Rick: Have the police been here? It looks pretty quite like nothing has touched this place.

Malina: Look at that.

Rick: Well I'll be, drag marks here, I would say this was a person who was very aggressive with you. And there, a deeper set of them. Must have been made by…

Malina: I don't think she wants to hear you say it.

Rick: (to himself) your dead corpse. He must have dumped the body somewhere else.

Malina: What do you make of it?

Rick: Simple. Jenny here was trying to escape from her captor. She was caught, manhandled, then executed. Now why?

Malina: Why what?

Rick: Why was she killed?

Malina: Can you tell us why the man killed you?

Girl: He told me not to. He told me not to!

Rick: Not to what?

Silence

Malina: Either she knew his identity or she was killed to be a form of punishment.

Rick: I cant seem to find it.

Malina: Find what?

Rick: A bullet, or any powder from the gun. All we have to go that this was the murder scene is a few scrapes in the dirt and her testimony that she was shot. But we cant elaborate on the latter.

Girl: …This is the place. I was on my knees right there.

Rick: Interesting.

Malina: Now what?

Rick: Look where the corpse was dragged away from where the girl was shot. Notice the difference?

Malina: I don't understand.

Rick: Only a gun with a powerful impact could move her body that far. I would say our murder weapon was some sort of shotgun. And for the angle…When the murderer killed you, he was looking you eye to eye wasn't he?

Larry: (a memory voice) Farewell

Fx: Gunshot (echo)

Girl: (slight scream then) …yeah.

Malina: Rick! SOmeones coming.

Rick: Don't worry, I can hide myself.

Fx: Fallen leaves rustle

Old Man: Hello! Thought I heard some voices, must be her. As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…

Rick: Pardon me sir.

Old Man: Wow, young man, you scared me for a bit.

Rick: I apologize. I heard you say something about a "her", can you elaborate?

Old Man: And who are you sir?

Rick: I am Rick Hart, Private Investigator. I am investigating a murder.

Old Man: Are you now.

Rick: What did you mean when the sounds must be her.

Old Man: I see. My boy, sometimes the dead like to tell stories. They like to be heard. And seeing this was the place a girl had passed away, I figure this would be the one spot she would chose to speak to this world from.

Rick: Speak?

Old Man: That lil' girl was killed in cold blood, hard for her to rest I believe. By speak, I am sure you are associated with the more common term, "haunt". I believe she haunts this place still. So I figured that was this noise.

Rick: Sorry to disappoint you mr…

Old Man: Reverend Thereon. I come to this place once a day to pay my respects. Figure perhaps if enough prayer can come to this place and bless her, she will head on to the golden gates.

Rick: I don't think it works like that.

Old Man: Really. So you think what I say is foolishness then?

Rick: You might be surprised how close I think you are, but there are other ways to give a soul rest. Your hearts in the right place. Say, how much of a walk is it to here for you?

Old Man: Not far at all. I live at that small house right over there.

Rick: The one on the hill?

Old Man: Do you see any others over there?

Rick: Wait one moment, if you live there…How do you know the victim was murdered here?

Old Man: Well the police found her in the lake, sure, but I heard voices in this area…

Rick: So you were in the area at the scene? You're a witness?

Old Man: Not much of one. My sight isn't that good.

Rick: Can you tell me what you experienced?

Old Man: Well, I already told the police.

Rick: What did you tell them?

Old Man: See I was going for a walk, it helps keep my heart healthy. Then I heard noises in this area. But when I called out, no answer. So as I walked away, I heard a gunshot. I went to phone the police but by the time I did that and came back, there was no body. But I have good hearing. I know exactly where that gunshot came from. A day later they found the body floating in the river.

Malina: So, you think he could have done it?

Rick: (Silently) I don't think so. He is too scrawny to hold a shotgun, much less effectively fire one while being in a crouched position. Nor the strength to dispose of the body as quickly as the real killer did.

Old Man: Who you talking to.

Rick: Sorry about that, I was merely adding the evidence together. Didn't mean to sidetrack like that. Um, does anyone else live near here?

Old Man: One person, I see him every once in awhile coming into town. Don't know his name though, if you look at that barn house over there, you can see him walking about. I tried to visit him once, he came at me with a gun and forced me to explain myself. If you ask me, I think he might have done it. But the cops questioned him, then released him. No evidence they said.

Rick: Thank you. Just one last question, have the cops, or you ever touched this place, moved objects or anything.

Old Man: Me? No. I just come to pray. The police think that she was killed somewhere else and simply dumped in the water.

Rick: Thank you for your time.

Fx: Foot steps

Old Man: Where you going?

Rick: Im going to take a look at that place over there.

Old Man: Be careful.

Rick: I always am. So long.

Old Man: May God watch over him.

Fx: Fade in Footsteps

Malina: She is shaking…poor dear.
Rick: Whats wrong?

Girl: I want to go home now.

Malina: She is getting pale…you know what I mean.

Rick: Very well, Mal, please watch over her here, I am going in for a closer look. This place is like a mansion. It may take some time to scour.

Malina: Be careful brother.

Larry: (Distant) Hey you out there! Stop or I'll fire.

Malina: Brother!

Rick: It appears we have hit a dead end. Let us leave…for now.

Girl: What are you planning to do?

Rick: I have no desire to persue this manor any further. Not this way. Perhaps it is best for me to retire as Rick Hart, and return as The Ghost.

Dramatic Music

FX: Fade in Night Noises (ei Owls, crickets and such)

Girl: I don't think we should be here.

Ghost: See that light, it is likely he is in the front room probably watching tv or reading a book. I think we are safe.

Girl: But…

Ghost: Remember, he cant hurt you, and me, I am used to this.

Girl: That door creeks, careful when opening it.

Ghost: I'll try.

Fx: Door creaks.

Girl: Oh no! I think you made too much noise.

Ghost: Just follow me. I promise we will be alright.

Larry: I thought I heard something. What!? The door's open? Whose here. Show yourself!

Girl: We will be caught for sure.

Ghost: Don't worry, he can hear you. You stay guard, I will check upstairs.

Girl: Oh no!

Fx: Gun c***s.

Larry: I'll find you whoever you are.

Fx: Door slams

Larry: So you're upstairs eh?

Fx: Climbing stairs

Girl: RICK!

Larry: I will find you.

Ghost: Hopefully my diversion worked.

Girl: Rick there you are.

Ghost: Don't worry, the window in that room was open, if he is smart, or drunk, which he appears to be, he will likely think someone escaped out the window. So, tell me about this room.

Girl: What do you mean?

Ghost: Look right there, a little bed, and next to it is a wall drawing, made with crayons. And on the bed…why is the teddy bear named Jenny?

Girl: This…used to be my room while I was here. My mom had my named sown on the bear.

Ghost: So it all comes together. This man, we can't convict him on the evidence alone, we need something solid. Can you help me confront him?

Girl: Sorry, I…cant.

Ghost: I understand. I cant ask you if you don't want to. Come on. We are going back. We will need more then circumstantial evidence to nail this guy.
Fx: Gun C***s

Larry: Hold it right there.

Girl: He found us.

Larry: Turn around.

Ghost: Don't worry, he couldn't even shoot me if he aimed, he is too drunk. And I could get the jump on him.

Larry: What did you say?

Fx: Gunshot

Ghost: I have you now!

Larry: (grunting) Get off of me.

Ghost: Take this!

Fx: thwap. And body fall to floor.

Larry: Not so fast.

Fx: Gun C***s

Larry: Even you cant dodge point blank.

Fx: Distant sirens.

Larry: What the?

Malina: The Rev called the cops! Claims he saw someone break and enter this place. Get out of here!

Ghost: We shall see each other again!

Fx: Running Away and gunshot.

Larry: Get back here…where did he go?

FX: Car door opens.

Cop: I thought I heard gunshots!

Fx: Pistol Drawn. And footsteps walk up the place. Knock on door.

Cop: Hello. I see the light on. Open the door, this is the police!

Fx: Door Opens

Larry: Can I help you?

Cop: Whoa buddy, you smell drunk.

Larry: Is that against the law.

Cop: We got a call about a breaking and entering.

Larry: Everything is fine. We are all fine here.

Cop: We?

Larry: (Laughs)

Cop: I also heard a gunshot, mind letting me search the premise.

Larry: Can't let you do that.

Cop: Is that a threat? Then perhaps it is best you come with me while we chat things over in the precinct.

Fx: Door opens, Steel chair screeches. And sitting sounds

Larry: I was able to clean the house up before they searched it. I don't think they know about the room with all of Jenny's stuff.

Fx: Door closes.

Investigator: You again Larry? What is it this time?

Larry: Apparently you guys just like having me here I guess.

Investigator: The last time was merely a precaution as we were investigating the area the old man said the girl was murdered. She was…

Larry: I know, but I haven't seen her in along time. Plus her body was turned up away from my house.

Investigator: However, the officer claims he heard gunshots. And we found two big bullet holes in the wale. Care to explain?
Larry: I was drunk and thought I saw someone in my house.

Investigator: Well we can confirm you were drunk, and we got an anonimious call that said that a shadowy figure was lurking around the place.

Larry: That was me. I heard a noise outside and accidently locked myself out.

Investigator: That happens I guess however we weren't able to find the rifle that made the holes in the wall. Why is that?

Larry: (To himself) Because that would connect me to the… (outloud) I was awoken by the officer knocking on my door, a misplacement if you will. It's a big old house, could be anywhere.

Fx: Fading out into

Chief: I don't know how to make heads or tails of this guy. You?

Cop: I just caught him drunk but everything about him stinks. Look at the initial investigation.

Rick: Good evening fellows.

Chief: Hart, been awhile, what brings you here.

Sarge: I don't remember asking you for help on this one.

Rick: I have been investigating on a separate issue of my own. Found it interesting you brought this man in. Has he said anything.

Fx. Door opens.

Investigator: I can't get anything out of him. It is driving me nuts. My gut tells me there is a lot more he aint telling me.

Rick: A lot more indeed…Um, perhaps I would be allowed special permission to talk to this witness. But I would need you to of course get rid of the recording devices.

Sarge: You cant let him do this. For the last time any confession is useless in court without it proper.

Chief: I see no harm, do your thing Hart. But I wont give you long.

Rick: That's all I ask.

Fx: Door opens, and Closes.
Rick: Good evening sir, I am Private Detective Rick Hart. You are Mr. Forbes?

Larry: I got nothing to say to a guy who couldn't hack it in the real police force.

Rick: Come now. Need you talk so loud. I see that grin on your face. How bout you and me talk a bit softer, they got guys in the back who can hear you.

Larry: (sarcasm) No…Really?

Rick: (softer) You did it, didn't you. You killed that poor girl.

Larry: I did no such thing and you cant prove it.

Rick: How bout a game, you think I am an idiot don't you?

Larry: Sure do.

Rick: Well aren't you a peach.

Larry: What you got in mind.

Rick: I will tell you what I think. And you try to make me think otherwise.

Larry: You are an idiot.

Rick: You held her in your home for along time. She escapes, you tracked her down. You dragged her, as she stuggled to get up, you bent down, looked her in the eye and shot her with a shotgun and put her body into the nearby lake knowing the current would pull her away.

Larry: Why would I kill her. Plus shooting a girl isn't my idea for fun.

Rick: What would you do then, to a girl?

Larry: Dragging her? You make it sound like I wanted to make it feel personal.

Rick: Looking your victim in the eye isn't personal?

Larry: Shooting a deer while looking it in the eye inst personal. You would be hiding behind a gun. If I wanted to be close…I would touch them.

Malina: NO WAY!

Rick: Whats on your mind?

Malina: How was she killed?
Rick: Then why shoot her?

Larry: Like I said, you are an idiot. I told you I didn't shoot her. I just proved my side of the game, I think I win.

Rick: Not yet.

Malina: He doesn't shoot his victims Rick.

Rick: …Oh my…

Larry: You alright? You look like you seen a ghost.

Rick: Where were you last Saturday?

Larry: Saturday?

Rick: When Twenty-one year old Meyers was killed.

Larry: What?

Rick: Do you have an alibi when she was murdered.

Larry: You mean Alicia Meyers right?

Rick: So you have been reading the paper on the serial killer I take it?

Larry: Perhaps.

Rick: Do you have an alibi?

Larry: Whats this about?

Rick: You don't, do you? What about the other Saturday?

Larry: Excuse me?

Rick: At 11 p.m. When Ms Samantha Dawson was strangled, where were you.

Larry: … I was at home.

Rick: I don't believe it.

Larry: What game is this? We were talking about the little girl. Does this line of questioning mean you admit defeat?

Rick: (Back to normal voice) I knew it! I am ready to leave. This whole time the answer was in front of me. You will get caught, and you will be stopped.

Larry: I think you cracked.

Fx: Door opens and closes

Larry: (to himself) He isn't as stupid as I thought, I did not expect him to make a connection. But he has no proof.

Sarge: Whats wrong did the scary drunk scare you?

Chief: You alright, you look like you seen a ghost.

Rick: I know already. It's I think…that man is our serial killer. Good night gentlemen I must leave.

Dramatic music

Linda: Hello Mr. Hart….Mr Hart?

Fx: Door Slams

Linda: How rude.

Rick: I want all reports of the victims or even suspected victims in the Strangler case and I need them now!

Malina: So, where do we start?

Rick: Simple. I cant believe I missed it. The first murder is always the worst. The most brutal and most complex. After that serial killers work like clock work. Charlize Claymore, was SHOT AND STRANGLED. She is also the earliest victim.

Girl: What's going on?

Rick: I believe he expected his gun to do the trick. Now either he fired once or his second shot missed. A shotgun is not a high ammo weapon. So he had to finish her off. Thus he strangled her. From then on, he decided to stay with his bare hands when he hunted down the others. Malina, I will be off for the next day. You keep Jenny company. In three days. I will catch the serial killer.

Girl: Where are you going first?

Rick: …To see your mother.

Girl: I am coming too!

Rick: Fine. Then lets go!

FX: Door opens.

Linda: I got with the police, they will be sending the…

Rick: I will speak with you later Linda, I wont be back for a while, leave them on my desk.

Fx: Another Door Opens and Slams.

Linda: Well I never.

Backround fx: Windy

Mother: It's cold out here. You used to hate the cold weather.

Rick: Ma'am.

Mother: You must be the man I talked to on the phone.

Rick: I am Rick Hart, Private eye. I have been hired to follow your daughter's case. Now let me just say that I am sorry for her passing.

Mother: There isn't a single moment that goes by when I don't think of her.

Girl: Me too. I miss you mommy.

Rick: I am sure your daughter misses you a whole lot and loves you. I believe she wanted you to have this.

Mother: This is…

Girl: I know you gave me my teddy bear to keep me feeling safe when I was scared. Please take it.

Mother: Jenny wanted me to have this?
Rick: I found it during my investigation but I believe your daughters memory will be stronger with you then in an evidence locker.

Mother: How did you?

Rick: Now I got to ask some questions. When did you last see her?

Mother: She was at my place. I had custody that weekend. So I tucked her into bed.

Rick: Was anything amiss?

Mother: No everything was normal I guess.

Rick: You guess?

Mother: Well, me and my ex had another fight, but that was normal.

Rick: I want you to know ma'am that I believe I know who killed your daughter and you can rest easy knowing that he will get justice and your daughter will rest safe. Goodbye.

Mother: What an odd fellow.

Girl: Bye mommy… I love you.

Backroudn Fx: Precinct noises.

Cop: We got a letter today.

Chief: Who from.

Sarge: Let me guess.

Cop: Yes, it is him. The one who identifies himself as The Ghost.

Chief: Whats it say?

Chief (Reads Fading into) Ghost : Dear officers of law enforcement. It has come to my attention that there is a serial killer on the loose. Allow me the opportunity to make a vow. Within 12 hours, your serial killer will be caught, and there shall be evidence enough to convict him. Until that moment you are invited to a party of sorts. The time and location are as follows…

Fade into

Girl: I don't think I am ready

Rick: When the time comes, you will know what to do. It will soon be time you faced your demons eye to eye, only then can you move one.

Malina: Good luck brother. Come back alive.

Rick: Things go bad, we still got eachother.

Malina: Not funny.

Rick: Lets move out.

Fade into

Backround Fx: Woods.

Larry: That dressed loser told me he would be seeing me soon. I'll be ready for him.

Fx: Window smashed.

Larry: So, you have come have you.

Fx: Gun c***s.

Larry: You will die. I will humiliate you, then I will shoot you. Let see you try and stop me.

Girl: He is coming!

Ghost: I know what crimes you have commited, perhaps I shall even the odds.

Fx: little glass breaks

Larry: The lights! You think you can fair better in the dark do you?

Fx: Door creeaks open.

Larry: The door, it opened all by itself. No, impossible!

Ghost: Perhaps I have that power, come outside and see.

Girl: What you talking about, you been here outside all along.

Ghost: but he doesn't know that.

Girl: Oh.

Larry: I am not drunk like last time.

Ghost: I have no doubt you can aim this time.

Larry: GOTCHA! Wait, where are you?

Ghost: Idiot, you let your guard down, I am behind you.

Fx: Tackling and bodies roll around.

Larry: Get off! What kind of outfit is that? Who are you?

Ghost: You can simply call me "the Ghost" and I am here to avenge those you murdered. Like poor Jenny.

Larry: Jenny?

Ghost: You chased her down to that spot there. Then you shot her while gazing her face to face.

Larry: You cant prove a thing.

Ghost: Get away from that gun!

Larry: Make me!

Fx: Body hits.

Ghost: Crossing me was a bad idea. Now confess.

Larry: You cant make me.

Ghost: I know about the other girls as well.

Larry: What?

Ghost: You are the Strangler.

Larry: How could you…

Ghost: You are a foolish man, I see all that happens, I know what each soul speaks as they pass on. They all accuse you!

Larry: You lie! YAAGH!

Fx: Tackle.
Larry: Now your on the floor. My gun. Got to get my gun.

Ghost: Wont let you.

Girl: Look out!

Fx: Blunt instrument hit.

Larry: Looks like I win. Now take of your mask.

Ghost: Jenny, now is your time.

Larry: Take it off or I will blow you to kingdom come.

Ghost: I was counting on this.

Larry: Take it off!

Ghost: As you wish.

Larry: Ha ha ha…what? No You cant be. You're… You're…You're my…

Ghost Fade into Girl: Your daughter.

Larry: You cant be.

Girl: You hurt me! You killed me.

Larry: Stay back!

Girl: You going to shoot me again!

Larry: You cant be alive. I made sure of it.

Girl: You took me away from my mommy. Why?

Larry: (being strangled) Please let go of me.

Rick: (echoing) You're choking him!

Girl: I want you to hurt! Bad!

Rick: (echo) Let him go.

Girl: Why?

Rick: (echo) This is your chance. Let go. Believe me, you will feel better. If not, you will turn me into a killer. Is it worth it?

Girl: But he…

Rick: (echo) You kill him, you will be stuck here in a state of anger and hatred. Only if you can let go, will you be able to move on.

Girl: …Okay.

Fx: Body falls.

Larry: (gasping for air)

Ghost: This is the end.

Girl: You are right Mr. Hart.

Ghost: I told you. You feel it now?

Girl: Ya, I do.

Ghost: Now tell me. Why did you murder her.

Larry: It was my ex wife. I hated her for what she did to me. So I tried to send her a message by hurting the one she loved. Where I knew it would do the most damage.

Ghost: My god! Your own daughter?

Larry: But she did nothing but cry, and whine. She wouldn't even acknowledge the point I tried to get across.

Ghost: And what of the other girls?

Larry: She refused to see what I tried to do, so I stalked down another girl, and each week another human being died because of her existence until she acknowledged the pain that was caused by her own existence.

Ghost: But she would never pay attention and notice the blood on her hands would she?

Larry: So I would do it again and again!

Ghost: The first time you strangled someone. You felt something.

Larry: It was great!

Ghost: In your own mind, you were slowly strangling the woman you hated. But never could finish her. And if you killed your ex, then the game would be over.

Larry: (Laughs)

Ghost: What's so funny?

Larry: And you cant prove a thing, my word against your's.

Ghost: True, but it is more your words, compiled on this voice recorder against you. I now have your confession.

Fx: Sirens Approach

Larry: What!?

Ghost: I believe that is the police as we speak. The games are over.

Girl: Thank you Mr. Hart. I think I can move on now. Goodbye. And tell my mother I love her and will watch over her.

Ghost: I will.

Larry: Is this it?

Ghost: Those sounds, they are justice calling you. The ghosts of all those murdered by you. Yes, this is the end my friend.
