The Salute

The Salute

A Poem by Devansh Shekhar Shukla
"

For the Almighty Army... Watch the video at the YouTube channel - TSB Worldwide. 7th poem from my book, DSS-The Enigma.

"
Some men, very attentive, can be seen,
far on the border, across the sands.
They keep their eyes open all the time
and ensure our safety with their sinewy hands.

For their life, there is no insurance,
is there anyone to ask, who are they?
The place where they stand, there is no safety,
is there anyone to ask, how are they?

It’s all about their invincible will and brawny arms,
they fight as strong as they can.
I’ve seen one of them, fighting,
they seem to me like immortals, not men.

They lose their lives,
to let us live.
They are the mighty soldiers, to whom,
I have ‘Salute’ as the only thing to give.

any soldier who fights for his or her country should be saluted...even when the cause isn't one we all agree with. They are doing their loyal duty, fulfilling their obligation to try to keep country's safe...
we may not like those who put them in that situation, but we must respect that their lives are on the line every day.

We have more than just 'Salute' to give them
More than our gratitude, it's our support that is useful :)

Thanks for your review.
War is stupid in my book. But then I am a warrior at heart. When there is no war I have no purpose to live and no reason to be. War is very ugly and often solves nothing. But from what I can see the United States strategy leaves warriors no one to fight and nothing to fight for. There will always be trouble makers like the terrorists who mostly just want to stir up a bunch of people that are too easy to stir up. Except for the Middle East there won't even be skirmishes to feed a warrior's appetite like a bowl of carrots and ranch dressing for big appetites for meat and potatoes without even pizza.

Thanks for your review.
Nice poem. It describes the courage our soldiers have for our country to save people. They sacrifice everything and leave their family for our safety. Well done.

Nice poem that describes the valour of the soldiers who guard the borders. It is for them that we and our children sleep peacefully at night.

You're right. Thanks for your review.
A salute at the very least, Devansh, but so much more. Although your poem is a fine tribute.

Very powerful imagery & an equally powerful statement. As a former military kid, this sort of thing is something that hits deep. The second half of this was very strongly written, thank you for sharing. The first half was good, too, just some of the rhyming seemed a little forced (you rhymed "they" twice) -- but otherwise, this was a great read, thanks again!

An excellent poem and one that reminds me of Wordsworth’s “The Happy Warrior.” Like his poem, yours reminds us that others stand for us and our lives, and we never know most of their names, unless their death makes headlines over some relatively inconsequential political spat.

Very sad Devansh, I like how you create imagery at the beginning as a backdrop, the sands already creating quite a bit of distance between the soldiers and reader - strengthening your Salute as genuinely being the only this you can give them in return. Nice poem.
