WHEN THE RAIN COMES...

WHEN THE RAIN COMES...

A Poem by Devansh Shekhar Shukla
"

A poem truly for the lovers of rainfall. It is the fourth poem from my first book 'DSS-The Enigma'. Watch the video- youtube.com/c/theshekharbrothers

"
When the rain comes,
it brings a chuckle on everyone’s face.
When I enjoy it,
it feels like it’s the end of my bad days.

All people seem to be pleased
as they forget all their pain.
“What is the best thing ever?”
I think it’s a shower of rain.

All flowers turn into their best ever look,
picnics are planned among friends.
When it rains in the sands,
it’s just like a new life to the weary bands.

Sometime, somewhere, someone had asked me,
“How many types of people are there?”
I answered-“Those who have enjoyed
rain and those who have never”.

I take it you mean the warm summer rain

However after weeks of miserable wet weather we are glad to see the back of it and welcome the sun even though there is still a cold breeze

Good write

Thanks a lot for your review.
Rain always brings a smile ... especially to those that are young at heart and see rain as blessing from heaven.
And rain gives that much needed sustenance to the earth and brightens the flora !

Thank you so very much for your beautiful review!
Dev,
An interesting take on rain. I must admit there was a time when I suffered from depression and welcomed the rain, because I felt it sheltered me from all that was happening to me (Just the crazy thoughts of an emotionally fragile person, I guess). I, thankfully, no longer see rain in this way . . . nor life for that matter. I would imagine that rain showers in India are different than where I live or people in the UK. Probably warmer. Winter rain in Kentucky, USA can be very cold and biting. Oh, well . . . I don't mean to throw cold water (get it?!) on your sentiments.

Particularly like the line, "All flowers turn in their best ever look." If I might ask: What is the reference to the weary "bands"?

I see in your info line you consider yourself an enigma.

It's like the rain comes and washes away our worries, cleans the slate.
Gives us the opportunity to smile once again and start over. Those little things we so commonly oversee.

I loved the rain. I like how you showed rain isn't always bad, but it's actually quite enjoyable.

• When the rain comes, it brings a chuckle on everyone’s face.

First, your face can do many things, but not create sound. Only your voice can do that. And of course, Anyone inconvenienced or disappointed by the rain will not be chuckling. So you just lost those in your audience who disagree with the first statement.

• When I enjoy it,it feels like it’s the end of my bad days

Makes no sense. The first line says that EVERYONE enjoys it. So the word "when" doesn't fit.

• All people seem to be pleased as they forget all their pain.

You're generalizing, and having groups of people behave as an individual. "All people?" No one said, "Damn, I was going to paint the fence today if it wasn't raining." ?

Words you have. And they fit your intent. But intent doesn't make it to the page, so those words must create the same meaning in the reader's mind as they do for you.

Thank you Sir for your suggestions.
I would imagine if you lived in a hot climate with little rain you would almost worship its arrival. Dance in it maybe. However when you live somewhere where there is much of it and it's cold as well as wet, you aren't likely to have the same opinion. I do however like summer rain, and even walking in it. It can be so refreshing and of course our plants need it. I enjoyed your poem Devansh, and the journey you took me on. Your lines are conveyed well.

I do love the rain, it seems to make everyone else sad and depressed, but not me, I prefer rain to the sunshine, sometimes the sun makes me sad.
