Poetic Oath

A simple promise to my poetry and to readers of poetry.

Right now I say,

Nay, I decree

To pay homage

To the greats

With respect to pay

And ink to bleed

With meaning to relate

Of love and war

Words of truth

To inspire the youth

And never bore

For you give your time

And time is vital

 

A pledge to page

Of still honesty

And endeavour to write

Writings of sage

Less the hypocrisy

To show pen’s might

 

I take this oath

With much humility

Intent on serving

What suits us both

In a manner of liberty

And in faith to the living
