Trials of Love

This poem serves as both my oath and hope for what it means to love.

Do you love me?

If you do, please

Oh please,

Hold me

Hold me now

Hold me close

Wrap your arms around me and just hold me

Press your lips against my cheek while you embrace me

Tell and assure me that you will be there for me

Because right now, I have no one

 

Cover me with your blanket

Cover my life force and my purity

Cover me with the sounds of the sea

Calm and still

And only unfold me

When the darkness cannot

Breach or taint the person that you want me to be

 

Tell me I am strong and safe

Tell me what is right

And then teach me to tell that to others

Speak to me so that I know you are there

Engulf me with your love and care

 

I am scared of the night

And of those who aren’t you

Save me from the despair of others

And from the pity of myself

And guide me to walk

Alongside the footsteps you have left behind

 

And if you truly love me,

Save me from having to ask you for all this again.

Author's Note

I have not been in a significant relationship....yet, but I believe a foundation for love has some prerequisites. And that goes for any kind of relationship, and any kind of love. Love and treat anything and anyone the way you would want to be treated.
