FearA Poem by Devin Mitchell DurbinThis is a poem about my fear, and the faith that I have struggled with in making decisions.I am afraid. I am afraid of the essence of life Of jumping headlong into fights Of standing up for my basic rights I am afraid. I am afraid of the shifting tides Of the voices in my head trying to hide Of the life that I could be living If I wasn’t afraid. If I wasn’t afraid I wouldn’t be careful and stay safe If I wasn’t afraid I’d take risks and break walls down And speak truth among other things. If I wasn’t afraid I’d take up my sword and shield and fight. If I wasn’t afraid. If I wasn’t afraid I’d lack empathy. If I wasn’t afraid I’d be a lifeless shell If I wasn’t afraid I couldn’t love. If I wasn’t afraid. I am afraid but that shouldn’t stop me There’s the God of angel armies above me. If David could be afraid and march with his armies. Then I can be brave and fight for the broken hearted. I am afraid but that can’t stop me There’s the God of angel armies above me If Moses could be afraid and stand up to pharaoh Then I can be bold and speak out about Jesus I am afraid but that can’t stop me There’s the God of angel armies above me. If Hosea could love someone who was so broken Then I can love those who leave me. I am afraid but that can’t stop me. There’s the God of angel armies above me. © 2015 Devin Mitchell DurbinFeatured Review
