You don’t have to approve of what I do

I’ve never approved of your actions either

But I keep my opinions to myself

It’s your life to live

 

You can’t control me

You can’t dictate me

 

I’ve torn off your chains and locks long ago

Why do you insist

It’s your way

 

It’s not

 

Accept me how I am

And support my decisions when not approving

 

Or reject me for me

And lose the one person who’s stood by your side

All this time

 

I can’t pretend to be who you expect me to be

When I’m me

And not who you wanted

 

Not what you deserve

 

I’m more

i thought it was cool, like really punches in the face. You do a fine job of portraying emotion. And if whoever this is intended for can't respect your freedom then he doesn't deserve you, you deserve better than that and i am sure you both will get what you deserve

Good title, it opens the door for a bit of interpretation even though the message of the poem is pretty clear...if I had to pick one dominant theme from your writing, I would pick defiance, which is just what this piece is haha Nicely done Kels :)
