Sharp Letters

You can look at me like I’m some kind of miracle

You can touch me like I’m a sculpted angel

And you’re trying to memorise every curve, dent

I’ve seen that look before

I’ve seen it again and again

By multiple people

It doesn’t last.

You can do things

And give me a certain look

You can act how you want

But what you say

The words you use

That’s what makes an impression on me.

You can gaze down at me like I’m everything

But when you tell me things

Use words that make me think

Make me feel

That you don’t care

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

Act one way

Speak another

If you’re mad at me

Just hit me

Instead of using words to cut through me

The words rebound in my head

Slicing me over and over

Harm me physically and be done with it

Because I can’t take these heartless words anymore.

As writers, we take words to heart, we take them seriously. Words can hurt just as much or even more than being physically hurt

Enjoy :)

It did help. Thanks for your review!
Having been abused emotionally and physically, I concur. The words hurt a lot more than the hand, and last a lot longer. "sticks and stones may break my bones but words/names will never hurt me" is a lie, and te idiot who came up with that was probably never insulted a day in his life :P a great write, though, hun.

It feels that way sometimes, doesn't it...like the slap might sting less than the indifference. Well penned.

Whoever came up with the whole, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words/names will never hurt me" was a complete moron and should be stoned. (kidding on that last part...)

Emotional and bold. Well done, Kels. :)

sounds good
The poem told the truth. Words can create great damage. A wise person stop bad rumors and keep silence on negative things. Unless one on one with the person involved. Your words were honest and direct. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.
