You’re such a disappointment

Never reaching my expectations

Always letting me down

Bringing me down

Pushing me down

And I fall

I fall to the ground

And you kick me

When I’m down

 

I can’t expect anything from you

Because if I expect anything

Then I have to expect the hurt

Because the hurt always comes

It never fails

It never fails like you do

 

And I don’t know what to do

I don’t know what to think

I can’t ask anything of you

I don’t want anything from you

I don’t want the pain

The feeling of loss

Of my time wasted

Of my hopes and dreams

Slipping away

Slipping through my fingers

Like raindrops

Falling into a puddle

Never to be identified

Again

 

I’m just going to have to

Expect the expected

Expect for you to let me down

So I don’t feel down

From such high expectations

Anymore 

Author's Note

Never expect anything, because when your expectations are low, they're most likely to be too low, and then something good will happen, and you'll feel better for not having such high expectations.

This poem had an interesting flow to it. I like it because its beyond traditional structure. It seems to me like a collection of late night thoughts put together poetically. The topic is depressing yet realistic. It also uses its over all meaning as an advice type message to the reader about setting expectations. Pretty cool.
