Own Embrace

Own Embrace

A Poem by Destinyxi

Own Embrace

You can just leave me be

Because hey,

I’m used to it

I’m my own company

Without me,

I’m alone

No one ever sticks around

Long enough

To leave me some kind of

Memory

I hear the distant chatter

Groups of friends

And I hold my own hand

It’ll be ok

I’m here

And I’ve never gone

Anywhere

I’m never alone

I have myself

I’m all I need

It’s so lonely

To be in

Your own company

But I pat myself on the back

It’s ok

I’m still here

And I’ve never gone far

I’ve never gone anywhere

I can’t go without myself

So I’m stuck with me

I’m my constant company

Alone

But with myself

Holding my own hand

Listening to the distant chatter

Of others

In each others company

I don't know if it's all my friends going out to Halloween parties, or my family going out to other family members homes, or the multiple arguments I've gotten into lately, but I'm feeling lonely as a single grape.

The feeling of loneliness is very strong, but sometimes, it is also a very strong need. It can be an incredibly heart wrenching thing, or a soul satisfying experience every now and then.

This was very well written, and I like it very much!

Yeah. Can a connection be made to a larger wholeness? Is it possible in an urban setting? Or any where for that matter? Just musing to myself. I love what you're doing with words. Cheers.

Nice to see people being honest as it works inside them! I seek the same problem but later I understand, it's me who is running away from people, later regret it but never show off! Then it makes us proud of being in our own company! Yet we enjoy the feel and reveal much that's unrevealed or might have been in past about which we are unknown till now! Confusing it makes all, as we mix up conventions with mental array! Thanks for sharing your sensible material!

This makes me sad to read but it's a feeling that everybody has at one point or another. Very introspective and this is written well. Maybe fix some punctuation; like in the last line "in each other's company," instead of others.

A interesting poem. I believe we decide if we want friendship or not. Sometime we need some private time. I did like the description of accepting the loneliness and being okay. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

Embracing solidarity within the context of loneliness is what this poem all about.
I like how you've conveyed this theme throughout the whole poem. It's ok to be lonely sometimes. It's the best form of rest and relaxation without distractions of any kind. Great write. I enjoyed every line. :)

Well, you encapsulate in words very well what it feels like to be left out - but also the pleasure of being alone. I think many of us enjoy that - especially when we can create our own world through our imaginations... A nice, reflective piece

On one hand, others always let you down. You are the only person you can trust. On the other hand, people are by nature social and need connection and contact. I like the narrator's strength. At the same time, I feel her loneliness and wish it wasn't so. Nice emotional writing.
