Give me a reason

For keeping my eyes straight

For traveling miles

For kissing only one

For this confusion

Give me a reason for not being with any other man but you

 

Tell me

All the things I need to know

What you want from me

What will happen in the end

What you want to happen

Tell me why every other man shrinks in comparison to you

 

Give me a handbook to understand you

Where the rules are written down

Neatly and in point form

 

Give me your bible

Rules I must live by to reach heaven

Your heaven

Where it’s just us

Where the world is below us

And were looking down at them wondering what fools

What fools they are

They’ll never reach us

 

Give me a reason

For being loyal

When I don’t belong to you

And you don’t belong to me

 

Tell me

Just tell me why I’m here

Is it worth it?

Are you just another waste of time?

 

Tic toc

The clock

Time’s a ‘wasting

I can’t keep waiting

For you to be mine

Tell me

Make me

Just don’t break me

Unconfuse me

Clarify me

Claim me

Dig your fingers in me

Mark me

Just stop wasting my time

Without giving me a reason

A reason to drop every other man

But you 

Author's Note

I got the title for this poem from the song 'Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)' by Abba. I just found it suited the poem haha.

The last time I wrote a poem, I was in Florida, so this is the first poem I write when I'm back home in Montreal.

The thoughts are sort of jumbled, at least in my head they are, not sure if they turned out that way on paper, or in this case.. on screen :P

I'm floundering for a reason, but everything I do just seems to make what I want slip through my fingers that much faster. As you say, "tic toc, the clock". It's the sound of my life running out.

Powerful poem. It speaks to a lot of people as it can be understood from a man's point of view as well. It just makes me sad at the moment.
