Winter's Wake

Winter's Wake

A Poem by Veronica
"

Winter awakes and the cold takes over...

"

Winter's Wake

The clouds have faded
Watching the cold take over
Giving life a rest

It fits the syllable structure for an English-haiku and also conjures beautiful images and ideas. The taking the haiku beyond what is purely seen, touched, smelt or heard in the moment to an imagination beyond while being against the idea of a Japanese haiku fits well with a large number of modern western English haiku. From this i get an idea of blue skies which in winter mean coldness and i can imagine a frozen landscape where life is sleeping, iced up or gone away until the land defrosts.
