If Walls Could Talk

If Walls Could Talk

A Poem by Destinee
"

From my mouth the darkest crimes would bloom.

"
If I could talk,
If I could tell you everything I’ve seen,
I could tell you stories you would never want to believe.
No one knows what I have seen with my all-seeing eyes.
No one is alive to tell the secrets I’ve overheard.

I’ve seen little pieces of heaven and little pieces of hell
I’ve heard whispers of tenderness and screams of hatred
I’ve seen love spoken to one and given to another
I’ve heard a heart breaking and footsteps leaving.

Oh, How hard it is to watch life fade away,
How hard it is to watch love grow cold,
How hard it is to listen to every pained cry,
How hard it is to bear witness to these images
And be unable to speak one word.

You will never hear from me.
My mouth is shut, but my eyes and ears are forever open.
It is my curse, to be able to stand so tall, so straight, so strong.

To bear the weight of the world
To hold the roof over the murder’s head and be unable to break
To shelter the demons of the world and separate the angels

I cannot tell you whom exactly I’ve seen.
I cannot tell you what exactly I’ve heard.

But if walls could talk

I would.

Parts of this I really relate to: "I could tell you stories you would never want to believe."

A good thing is if walls did speak you could listen to their stories while having a pint or two. You could get drunk next to bricks! And it would be an entirely sane thing. Would be a good excuse atleast ;-)

A very good piece. Kudos!

Fascinating! I felt so speechless while reading this. I'm more into lyrical poetry, but I found this very intriguing and it gave me several good ideas.
Excellent emotional description, really heart tugging.
Such a burden to carry. Keep up the brilliant writing!

Pretty powerful write, so deep with lots of emotions.
If some walls could talk I probably would be in some trouble.

'To bear the weight of the world To hold the roof over the murder’s head and be unable to break 'To shelter the demons of the world and separate the angels' Love these lines, a great metaphor and physical idea beautiful secrets hidden within walls we see as inanimate, bringing to life the everyday mundane objects we don't think twice about, like an unseen child they hide and watch unable to speak against the torment they have witnessed and share the stories of a lifetime within their fragile hearts they hold the weight the carriers don't know they had. Fluid and haunting.

My favourite line is "little pieces of heaven and little pieces of hell" because I understand exactly what those pieces are. I love this, I can relate in so many ways: I see things and hear things, but I am never able to say a word. ~ BlackCl0ud

I’ve heard a heart breaking and footsteps leaving.

~~~~~You can make the walls start talking today in these poems, I can already hear the whispers. You're finding your voice one day at a time, same as the rest of us.
Ooooh - i love it. A very clever perspective and fantastically written. The only thing I would query is do you mean the murderer's head rather than the murder's head. But apart form that it was a brilliant poem.
Wow! What an interesting approach to the perspective of a wall. I really like the way that you worked through it. It makes a really powerful point. How brutal the life of a wall must be! Particularly in the homes of angry people that punch them and abuse them, all while abusing each other. The wall can't do anything to defend itself or to shield itself from the brutal realities unfolding before its eyes on a daily basis. Great job.
