For You

For You

A Poem by Dessa

I’m standing in the spot, where you left me.

I haven’t moved.

It’s not because I don’t want to,

it’s more like you demand that I stay.

When I try to leave you panic
when I stay you ignore me

I’m nothing to you
one minute you can’t stand the site of my face,
and the next you’re holding me so tight I can barely breathe.

I want to see the world and have a life,

But you tell me to wait for you, that we will travel together,
just you and me.

Is it possible to feel like you’re drowning from attention,
but still feel alone and unloved?
So I’ll stand here
I’ll put my life on hold

I’ll do everything I’m told
because you want me to

I’ll watch my life pass me by
and watch as all my friends graduate, marry, travel… live
and I’ll just stand here… because you want me to.
After all, that’s what daughters have to do for their Mothers,

Right?

Heartbreaking....a good portrayal of a mother-daughter relationship, always the more tremulous relationship
