ChaosA Poem by AlexandraA war poem in a sense, its basic idea came to me after reading a part of All Quiet on the Western Front.
Hands shaking, reaching out to grasp
Hold of anything that would give into their dark desires
Never ending search for the twisted truth
Hidden from the light of your soul
Shown to the darkness of your heart
Flashbacks to the recesses of your mind
Now you ears finally open to the sounds and screams of the dying
The spark comes back to light your eyes and you see
Once again, the writhing bodes of your comrades
Laying in the shell-holes
Everything starts spiraling down
Deeper into your memories
The shell-holes seem to turn
Into freshly dug graves
For bodies still warm to the touch
Their eyes start to dim
The life is ebbing away
All you can do is watch
Your body is frozen in place
To you time has slowed
Causing you to endure these sights and sounds
Longer than you can bear
You wish for it to stop
Now, you are endlessly searching for something that could control the chaos
Unleashed by the demons inside
Your body trembles under the weight of this nightmare
The view you had is now blurry
Because of the tears that are now
Flowing freely from your eyes
All you know is that you must
Escape these terrors
Flames are surrounding you
Blocking all the paths out of this
Something explodes a few feet from you
You feel the hot shrapnel dig into your flesh
You scream out in pain
But hear nothing
Everything goes black as your heart gives out
In the end you are just one of the many lifeless bodies
That once were living soldiers
Brave and emboldened
Now who will remember your name?
