You Were Dead

You Were Dead

A Poem by Moonflower
"

Its a matter of fact.

"

It was all

a mistake

So close your eyes, dear

and count the breaths

that you take

These are numbered days

One.

Two.

Three.

I'm no longer me

And my god,

its hard to sleep

With the street light

glaring
through the window

While you're

on the floor,

wallowing
in the shadows

I'm over here
and the wall is no support

Light the candles

Please, please, please
just close the door

And you're clogging up the
town
with the fumes of your
car

its in the water, its in the air

But you don't care, no, you don't care

You just laugh,

 and they all stare

With empty eyes,

  all laced in red

and they were breathing

But,

you were dead.

So many people are dead whilst still alive. This is pure art. The structure helps the dynamic impact of the words. Simple, but clever

A lot of hidden story in the poem. You went in may direction with your thoughts.
"its in the air, its in the water
But you don't care, no, you don't care"
I like the ending to the excellent poem.

Makes me think of love, family and sadness. What a mixture. I liked the simpleness of this poem, but the complex meaning.
