Catalina

A Poem by Moonflower

And when its all closing in, will you

still try to breathe, your hands flat against the wall

pushing, pushing away

at that stone barricade

Oh how they pulled back your hair and

sang of glory and principalities

Your fingers snug against the banister

with only a hint of

what might be recognized as

pride

Those pagan banners fell to the

ground like

the wails of their ghostly hearts

blood gripping against

flesh and mudd

Boot trampling the turmoil,

Heads held high with triumph

though you knew the lie all the while

So did he take your sordid face in his

unrelenting hands

Pretending, oh what a pretender,

that he fell inlove again

Oh My Pomegranate, Oh my sweet Empress Divine

Those treacherous words did you remember

as the tower stood tall among the pines,

where your days would be reigned by darkness

while on your own throne a girl reclined

Oh gracious one, with patience kind

Oh fearless one, with god resides

Oh dear love, Oh righteous face

You took your love to traitorous fate

You promised your love to your dieing mate

You bid goodbye, to all your life, wait

Oh such a lie, Oh such a waste

Did the moon hang high that night

her rested head on pillowed might

Her ivory skin so clean and cold

Her glare still skillful, sharp, and bold

Did her ladies mourn her soul, as she

smiled, praying as she let go...

Author's Note

Moonflower

This is based on the life of Katherine of Aragon, Queen of England

I'm not at all satisfied with the ending, any suggestions would be nice...I will be working on this all night, and then will probably revise it again.
My poems lately have been coming and going in odd ways, leaving me baffled when I cannot seem to finish one before I start two more pieces. Eh, maybe some form of writers block, I suppose...

yeah I could totally see..Its a beautiful biography or more of the end of a great persona..Brilliant..totally fresh perspective and very vicious lines that very aptly describe the immense agony , the unimaginable pain Katherine suffered. I really like the poetic qualities in this one..Very delectable..Enjoyed...A wonderful poem..

yes this sounded really interesting and intriguing, especially that first stanza, now that sure caught my attention! i sure like how you've taken inspiration from history! if you do think that ending isn't so good, perhaps you could elaborate more on the mourning part, especially since you've described her as so powerful and all.
nice work!

it seems you have not voiced the main of your feelings about her or her life in some way. perhaps if you could pinpoint that, then you would find you missing element. Otherwise you have a beautiful piece here which captures the aura and feel of her spirit and her amazing place in history as a truly unique individual. I personally research when i write about a historic person like this and gain often an insight from the research that helps my write. I sent you something about her that may help. Otherwise this is a gorgeous poem just dripping with beauty!

This is an amazing portrait of a powerful woman.
You are a maestro of emotions. Waving your desire
to force the reader to feel as you see fit.

such a violent and harsh ending...not that it wasn't good...it's just that you're like totally went really emotional by the end...
