Antarctic

Antarctic

A Poem by Moonflower

Darkness prevails in those
Winter months
As cold winds bluster through every
crevice
Bodies cluster, feebly

against the harsh, frozen gails

Deep, Icy Oblivion over comes
the cycle of day and night
Its a long, cold evening
and Sunshine is still months away...

They bend and break under the
pressure of the stars
They cry out in hunger as the
wind blows away their hearts
But theyre still standing there
waiting on that giant, sleeping god.

Then....
The winds calm, and the seas
swoosh in a lazy conundrum
Silence prevails
the ever changing winds
The stars fade
and the moon slides down
in to his humble abode.

and ever so slowly
that summer sun
creeps up from his nether hole

Light
spreads and illuminates
Blinding, but warm
Their eyes blink in anticipation
wings stretch and fold
soft whispers awaken
and the darkness
is finally over come..

Powerful and starkly beautiful. Demonstrates the primal contemplative pressure of diurnal/nocturnal and weather extremes.

Summons a sense that survival depends on deep meditation and acceptance (whatever the presumably penguin version of that is).

Pristinely beautiful.

Winter does have beauty also. I go to Christmas town in upper Michigan. You can watch Lake Superior create art with the cold water on the winter shore. It freezes as soon as it hit the shore create nature art. The poem is powerful. Each line adding to the strong story in your words. I like the ending. A outstanding poem.

Great job here... seasons often stand as metaphors, and Winter usually as death or something equally gloomy. In this I see the winter as depression, and the coming warmth as the way out. Lovely writing as always...

This is wonderful love:)
Such extremes are here! A beautifully written poem that blinds the reader through its seasonal change!
