I met myself

I met myself

A Poem by Moonflower

I met myself
today
on the dusty trails
of yesterdays
And I breathed a heavy,
guilt laden sigh...
and asked myself
a plain and stubborn
Why?

She turned to me
a burning glimpse of
sin
with a slightly bemused
grin
and said that it was all
worth while...

...but I'll never forget that smile...

An interesting, slightly twisted version of the Doppelganger theme. If only we possessed that ability to face ourselves from our past and retrieve the answers to the Why's and Why not's and all the other regrets we have forsaken from our actions. I like the faint rhyme and haunting, burning finale. Seems past self had no grievances much like the current one. Time and experience can mark change upon the heart and soul.

We must look ourselves in the mirror everyday and wonder if we are doing our best and what is right... something very compelling bout this piece.

Nicely done Moon. You leave a little mystery hiding between the lines with possible secrets that sound like their best hidden away by the speaker. Good job.

What a neat paradox here with the speaker meeting his/herself. Intersting read. I liked it!
