Addiction

Addiction

A Poem by Moonflower

My stomach rumbles

I moan...

Flop over and roll

out of bed

Vision

glazed and tearful

sleep smeared

over iris'

Veins

ache and

pulse

behind my

lids

I feel the

sickness

coming on.

Coughing up

phlegm

filth.

My insides

churn

chewing on

the remains

Nausea

Fatigue

My head

Spins

Spinning...

I snarl.

Breathe deep,

cough.

I know it

isn't pretty

Lieing in bed

hair wrapped

around

Pillows and

cigarrettes

I'm...killing myself

Slowly.

the kind of addiction I choose not to quit, specially because of the withdrawal !!
I guess the dying part is the best of it !! I mean smoking. I'm smoking a cigarette as I'm writing this review !!

Never been there... at least not in this sense. My addictions have been more subtle, yet not at all easily broken. The short stanzas create the sense of urgent torment, creating the scene of misery. Nicely done...

Yes...been there...tried a heavy opiate withdrawal alone in a motel room a couple of times (many, many years ago). I wasn't strong enough. John Lennon got it right in 'Cold Turkey'.

Whether this is about that or a metaphor for something else...you got it dead on.

Really good writing. PS - I see a lyric - Lucinda Williams type of strong simple emotional beat and chords with a killer lead guitar and solo.

watching my eldest go through this many times before she finally achieved victory for herself over the substances~I felt it keen to the bone as if it were only yesterday where she beat a flood of pain into the air~her body in contortions as deep as the contortions in her mind~
raw and honest~

This sounds bad. I can picture this in my mind. This is very descriptive and it doesn't sound like and easy road but in the end well worth.
