Mild Trepidation

I was never one to step

to easily

out of my thoughts

And you were

never one to congregate

 

All I ever wanted was some

conversat-ion

 

I was never one to hide

behind the lie

But you were never

there

To hold me if I cried

 

Then again, I didn't

let my tears

become the tide

The unflinching attitude

of grim solace

is what has been known

as mine

 

Don't let me manipulate

you into thinking

that I'm right

 

Don't let me confiscate

everything you

believe tonight

I like the subtle rhyme. That is the beauty of free verse you can flow as you wish. The tone seems introspective to me. Two emotionally conflicted lovers concealing hidden truths. The last stanza is a nice finale to their chapter.
