Soul Screaming

Soul Screaming

A Poem by Moonflower

Standing on the edge,

his eyes are filled with
the torrential epiphany

of false

Inclinations

Hollow,

they speak out

Lips in frigid incapacitation
Skin like stretched leather

the binding, too tight,

Scraping against fragile bones,
pulsing veins

His chest quickens,

like a startled serpent as he inhales

with a spine cringing

[whoosh]

You see

raw fear,

The rabbit in the jaws of a vicious coyote

Something is chewing on his heart
as he he coughs up

The bile of his own decaying
flesh

He rasps and shutters,

Inclining his neck for the
long drawl

of soul emptying oblivion

As a mangy, tattered and hungry wolf
He howls

intense '

anguish, the sorrow flows
out

with accumulating horror

He bares

his being

on the dust of empty trails
Tomorrows

racing past

as the smoke rolls
He feels the flames upon

his neck
Satan's [beckoning] call

He wails,

Like a thousand hearts ache and pulse

in a perfect resonance

The trees break and crumble

as those hollow eyes
open

wider and wider

the O of his mouth accentuates

..and the Scream pervades...

Wow, this is stunning! It flows perfectly, and a little disjointedly, which perfectly suits the mood and atmosphere of this poem. The images are graphic, in a muted way, more of a subconscious shock rather than right there in front of your eyes. And I think that kind of shock and awe is much more effective in writing.
One thing, though, did you mean to write "shudders" in "He rasps and shutters, Inclining is neck for the"? That bit was a little confusing, because I read it as "Shudders" but I'm not sure if you had other intentions. :3
Either way, this poem is a work well done!

Oh my, you do have a sense of the darkness. The story of this poor soul's demise is told with excellent imagery.

Layers of depth, layers of meaning... whether and ode to 'The Scream' painting as Pax suggests, or a commentary on the growing despair of mankind, this resonates, and your powerful description just adds to its power. Definitely holds the attention, masterfully written...

Whoa!

This is rather like commentary for the famous painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch.

"Standing on the edge, His eyes are filled with
the torrential epiphany of false inclinations"

A perversely eloquent welcome to his hell.

"Some thing is chewing on his heart
as he coughs up the bile of his own decaying
flesh"

This poem is disturbingly effective in the manner of a pill taken in lieu of a horror film! Here, pop this, freak the f**k out. . .Damn.

Primally freaky, and a reminder of your impressive range of expression.
