Constellation of Ant Lions

Constellation of Ant Lions

A Poem by Desert Dreamer
"

experiences and thoughts while sitting out under the ironwood tree today

"

Ant Lions throwing sand

spinning in a circle

beneath the funnel

jaws emerge

Green bees hover nearby

collecting pollen

fragrant desert lavender

Jumping Spider lands on my toe

she jumps away

turns to look back

watches my feet  intently

what are human feet to a spider?

Ant Lion create vortexes

constellations in sand

do I create a vortex of my own?

my soul like an ant lion flinging sand

what do I await at the bottom of the slope?

Jumping Spider sits on a fallen branch nearby

keeps me company as I warm myself in morning sun

I become Ant Lion waiting for sustenance

Military helicopters fly overhead practicing war

interrupt my visit with Jumping Spider and Ant Lion

Is war a human tendency?

why must the occupiers keep taking

more land to call their own

if war is a human trait then I am not human

I am inhuman preferring to live in my own vortex

moving a little soil to meet my needs

creating my own star in a constellation of Ant Lions

War based on lies

they say they are defending a country

I see them defending stolen land

motivation for war

growing need for more resources

helicopters move on to destroy new lands

everywhere this culture spreads

it leaves behind suffering and war

How do I know if I live on stolen land?

How do I know if I am one of the occupiers?

Ant Lion asks if I destroy the land around me

Jumping Spider asks if my life benefits other lives

reassures me that I wouldn’t be sitting with her

if I were one of the destroyers

but still I wonder

I tiptoe around Ant Lion funnels

around Jumping Spider still perched on a stick

health of the Earth is a priority

I will do what I can to care for the Earth

My mother use to say to me "nahookaa diyin dine nili" you are a holy sacred child living on the surface of mother earth. Now act like it.
Your presence here at this time, in this place is a gift. Gratitude, humility, respect and honesty are great teachers. I can see you understand this.
Your love for these amazing creations -speaks for you. You are a holy, sacred being...as such take your rightful place as they (spiders, green bees, ant lion) do - in splendid fashion!
