Soul Dancer

Soul Dancer

A Poem by Desert Dreamer
"

death and grim reaper inspired

"

Death arrived unannounced

I offered him my soul

I wandered

throughout the land

in a field of wildflowers

I heard a whisper

“Your soul will be scattered like pollen”

a rusty red butterfly appeared singing praises

to the bringer of souls

the source of all flowers

I followed the blazing Queen

to a blossom emanating hues of a glorious sunset

inside the fiery depths I recognized myself

I ran from flower to flower

in each open bloom

I found fragments of my surrendered soul

Intoxicated by beauty

I abandoned these lost bits of soul

mine no longer

I embraced everything

That which I call my self

seemed to expand and grow

reaching beyond the customary boundaries of the flesh

the border separating me from nature dissolved

I consist of everything the world consists of

My departed soul had revealed itself

bits of my soul danced in the form of butterflies

on the wings of a Gulf Fritillary a dream was born

my whole being responded with joy

my mood was expressed as a bright blue sky

I looked to the heavens

gazed into myself

saw my soul everywhere

a spellbound dreamer awakens

Gulf Fritillary butterfly photo from my garden.

Really nice. The impression I get is returning to nature after death. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. I like how if you read deeply, you find meaning behind the words. And if you just read it (no deep thoughts), you can still enjoy the pictures it paints. Great job.

These lines are shining bright and are filled with sparks of happiness. A pure pleasure to read. Great write where finally someone finds bliss in discovering, finding and accepting and loving herself for who she really is...
Brilliant metaphorical piece. I love the tipsy feeling it conveys.

These are beautiful thoughts of one who sees herself as part of the very essence of nature, at one with the fuse of life, finding pleasure in the nectar of the flowers, in the brush of the breeze, the warm smile of the sun

I love this story, what could have been a tragedy, the giving up of one's soul, instead turned into something very positive and inspiring.

The life around us is the real world: growing blades of grass, the scent of wet earth, birds gliding the skies, ants busying themselves and so forth .. there in Nature is really where the spirit flies .. and there you are on the wings of a Gulf Fritallary discovering the secret of being alive ..

This is as near spiritual you can be .. your words are truly lovely, and what's more, inspiring.

We are what we feel and what we create .. in us is the soul of who we might become .. (can't remember who said, wrote that or exactly how the words go .. but I wish the words were mine)

I don't normally dig 'spiritual' poetry but this was very cool and positive and can be applied as much to atheism as to anything else so nice one [give up the idea of a soul and find beauty in the world around you etc].
I liked the original ideas in it, and how you conveyed them so well with carefully-crafted language - “Your soul has been scattered like pollen”.
I equally don't usually dig 'prettiness' either but the fact is this piece IS pretty and it's a pleasant read.
Excellent work, thanks for sharing it and thanks for reviewing another of mine.

I really like this poem. I love the way you tell a story with it, and the way her soul is scattered throughout it. Just a wonderful poem, for sure.

A wonderful spiritual search where nature fingers and spins her works to retrive your joy--on her wings of Gulf Fritillary. A classic.
