The Back of Your Hand

The Back of Your Hand

A Poem by Desert Knave
"

A sonnet from 2022

"
I guess that I've grown accustomed
To you putting me in my place
And serving me public disgrace
It seems to be an acquired taste

I guess I've grown to understand
Being shown the back of your hand
When I don't do just as you planned
I'll pay that price to be your man

I guess that I've grown accustomed
To the looks I get from your friends
Who know that it's all just pretend
And I'm but a means to your ends

I guess I've grown to understand
Being shown the back of your hand

Oh wow, my last ex...
You painted her portrait with these words, Jim.
Every word fits...I could buy this poem and hang it on my wall...and then just smile at it.

Thanks, Jacob. Kind of an amalgam of two relationships. ~Jim
