Autumn’s Unmatched PortraitA Poem by Derek Smith
Autumn is finally here.
Fallen leaves diverged around. Covering the Earths surface. Light shining through the canopies. It’s a stony November morning, Where the soft white frost tipped grass is gleaming. The frigid winds howl, As the tricolored leaves blow across the ground. They flow with the wind, stopping beneath our feet. We can hear and feel the subtle crunch as we walk onward. Our breath now visible with the cold air. The cold air that wraps around us. Hand in hand we stand close, For warmth, and comfort. Stride by stride we continue down this path. Slowly..Side to side, up and down we stare. The beauty of nature captured in our eyes. We take in each moment as if it was the seasons last. Each passing moment the sky adopts new colors, Matching that of the fallen leaves. The yellow orange, the gold, and deep reds. This beautiful scenery used to be Autumn’s Unmatched Portrait. It seemed as though all else lacked comparatively..until.. I turned to my side and saw.. You. © 2021 Derek Smith |
