The Monsters

The Monsters

A Poem by Ellianna
"

This is a short poem about depression and suicidal thoughts

"

“Mommy Check under the bed”

“In the closet too”

Little did she know the monsters weren't in reality

They were in her head

Could mommy save her from them?

I’m sorry to tell you

That Mommy can’t save you

Once the monster takes over…

There's no going back

You can act like they're gone

Even though they're still whispering

Calling out to you

“Cut”

“Die”

“Yes do that”

“You can't go out”

The monsters are there

When The Monsters stop talking

You know they got to you

After they talked you into it

There's no going back now.

I once wrote a poem bout monsters too. They were seen from the point of view of a little child scared of monsters in the room. Of course they never mentioned cutting or dying so yours are much scarier than the ones I invented.

Nice writing Ellianna and welcome to WC. :)

As someone who works with a lot of people with schizophrenia and hallucinations, this is the best depiction of early onset of mental illness (especially for children) I've read in a while.

Monsters abound in this world.
This poem conveys the feeling of a victim of such very well.

Auditory hallucinations are the most common and most frightening symptoms of mental illness. Thanks for your poem. More people need to know how real these voices can be.
