Journey of a Writer

A fun and humorous poem. I made when I thought of writers. Might not be completely accurate, not a publish author myself, but hey I think it captures the journey quite nicely.

 

Working tirelessly day and night

Juggling 24 hours a day, these people are like shining knights.

Making time for social interactions, work and school

How do they do it?

 

Just to come home, from a long hard day

To sit at a desk, and get lost in lands,

That goes beyond the imagination.

Fighting through writers blocks,

Like a professional boxer.

Years spent on a single book, and a manuscript so nice

It’s your pride and joy, because you spent days and nights.

To arrive at countless rejections

Are you getting annoyed?

 

Not giving up! These people get back to work,

Pushing themselves to the brink of madness.

Questions of doubts start to arise

But never give up

You are in for a surprise!

 

Finally getting a call back,

Who could it be?

You answer the phone, without hesitation.

A publishing agency oh could it be?

They want to publish your story

A smile so wide, that could light up the night sky.

You tell your friends and family,

And have a few drinks.

 

They ask "Where’s my free copy?"

You smile and without hesitation

“You still have to pay!"

No one ever said writers were nice.

Author's Note

The ending is kind of sketchy, but I couldn't seem to get it out right, any suggestions on improvement would be nice!

the last line, No one ever said writers was nice, it sounds a bit strange. maybe change it to: No one ever said writer were nice. besides that, its really good and I feel like it could wring true for a lot of people!

Thank you, although I think I should have add the constant harsh criticism that writers endure from time to time, lord knows I get them all the time for my grammar.

I got some bad grammar and spelling as well. I was told by teachers that I shouldn't bother aiming to write for a career.

Well there's a few things I think you should know about writing... (although I'm just as new and probably even more novice than you.) and some experience writers have given me some advice also.

Well I wouldn't have writing as my ONLY 'Career' either (most people don't make it big in writing.) But who knows maybe my story 'might' make it one day... But ya have another plan don't rely on writing to pay the bills :P If I wasn't mistaken most writers, can't just live off their writing, besides the extra popular ones.

1.If you want to do something that you love go for it! (Contrasting what I said above, you can do it just make sure it's not the ONLY thing you plan on doing.)

2. Many writers have editors, that help fix the mistakes for them (even the popular ones) so ya just think about that...

3. If you know your not the best at writing like am

And if you don't know who Vince Lombardi is (The guy whose name is use for the NFL Superbowl trophy) AKA Lombardi trophy... Look him and his accomplishments up.
