Flying High

Flying High

A Poem by Dennis
"

Reflective poem I wrote inspired by the view outside the airplane window on a flight to Cancun, Mexico

"

Flying high above the clouds,
Terrestrial view is different now,
Patch work quilt of farm fields,
Show results from burdened plow.

Planted crops and fallow fields,
Each with its' distinctive hue,
Paint a scene of mans' dominion,
From the heavens wondrous view.

Puffy clouds hang in the air,
Floating, no evident foundation,
Prompt the mind to define shapes,
Suggested by the clouds' formation.

Bodies of water lie beneath,
Sparkle in the morning light,
Snaking rivers and proud lakes,
Views of them bring such delight!

Five miles high the view is splendid,
Above the cities, in the air,
It's like watching human anthills,
Take in their beauty, without a care!

A different perspective always brings a sense of awe. I like the observed details and the effect they have. You poem could also be a metaphor for 'enlightened detachment', or at least, standing back and appreciating. I loved this poem.

I love to lie on the grass, when the clouds are soaring overhead, and imagine what they are telling me. They change shapes, and the metamorphosis brings laughter and peace. Beauty personified. Your words truly tell a tale.

Thank you for your kind comment and wonderful shared observation. It is appreciated.
Wonderful experience depicted vividly.
I felt like flying along you and enjoying the extra mundane beauty of cloud as the cropped fields.
Very well done,Dennis.

absolutely breathtaking brother Dennis, when I lived in Texas the cloud formations where the most beautifulest I've ever seen, the looked like cotton fields all puffy and white and so close it felt like you could reach up and pull them out of the sky, I so adored your poem and enjoyed the read, thanks so much for sharing xoxo
