Leonard Knew

Leonard Knew

A Poem by Dennis
"

Personal reflection on the song Suzanne by Leonard Cohen

"

As Leonard sang about Suzanne

My youthful years slipped past

But at the time I heard him sing

I thought those days would last

Suzannes would come and they would go

And Jesus waited for my soul

Days of rebellion and days of bliss

My traveling fate did know

Now past my prime and Suzanne days

With fading memories on my plate

I think of Leonard and understand

Life rambles on and will not wait

And beauty seen upon the road

Touched by our hearts and mind

Is a treasure to be cherished

A rare and precious find

There are people like Leonard, who for Suzanne, was for all of us, a reason to live. Maybe what you have written will prick the conscience that you’ve done.
This sure does have a brevity song attached Dennis.Titus

Did you wear a "faded blue raincoat" when you wrote this?
I truely enjoyed this. The memories this invoked seem like yesterday rather than 30 plus years ago.
The rhyme scheme was solid and never forced and the meter, at least to my ear, seemed solid throughout. Well done. Nice and tight.

I can't wait to hear you read this one on WPOM.
