You're Awesome

You're Awesome

A Poem by Denham Cole
"

It's so bright at writers cafe

"

You're looking at a square,

but they're calling it a star.

You see there's nothing there

   and it gets too bizarre

When the crack pots cry

   inside a bell jar:

“It’s truth what I think:

   Your s**t don’t stink!”

It doesn’t make sense,

   and none can be found

When the simpletons’ ditty

   strikes them profound.

But when they confess it,

   they aint horsing ‘round:

“It’s truth what I think:

   Your s**t don’t stink!”

Believe them and you risk

   a case of stunted growth.

You were suspect at first,

but it seemed an hearty oath -

They were billing you up

   as the next von Goethe...

“It’s truth what I think:

   Your s**t don’t stink!”

So you’re looking at a herd

   of goofy toothed ducks

Amping up the wattage

   on your luminous flux.

You’re an absolute talent,

   with they at the crux:

“It’s truth what I think:

   Your s**t don’t stink!”

So you’re looking at a herd
of goofy toothed ducks
Amping up the wattage
on your luminous flux. - great image!

Funny because today I was thinking about how "Why is it suddenly accepted if they claim its self-expression" Interesting theme to write about.

:: well... i guess there are different kinds of people... most of those who are visible on WC are into review-bartering... in addition to being practitioners of the 'i-send-out-read-requests' religion... :P

:: in this sense... most who are not visible... are atheists... they do not practice review-bartering... and they do not send out read requests either...

:: for me (unless someone succeeds in deceiving me)... a true poet is one who has the ability to experience emotions intensely... and is devoted to the idea of pursuing excellence in poetic expression...

:: i read very few people these days... but i read all that they post... they can easily tell which post of theirs i liked more or less than another... but i do not use "unkind" language to critique... i don't have critiquing skills anyway... plus english is my third language... i also belong to a society that does not encourage the freedom of expression so i do have a tendency to lash out at those who are excessively unkind... can't help it...

:: just my thoughts after reading your rather thought-provoking post...

i like this....yes, it really helps a poet much more to get honesty instead of just praise...

especially when what we write is really mediocre and does smell a bit...and yet we are praised for a perfect scent.

good stuff..
